Jane, Stop This Crazy Thing

Fit-Fur-LifeRemember during the opening credits for "The Jetsons," when George would get stuck on the dog treadmill? Well, someone took that idea and created an entire business.

British company Fit-Fur-Life has created a line of dog treadmills for training, rehabilitation and downright lazy owners. Sure, that puppy looked sweet and cuddly in the window of the pet store, but it's been three years and the cuddly phase has passed.

Instead of walking the dog like a good pet owner should, toss Fido on the treadmill and watch that canine fat melt away ... while your own fat lingers.

2. When you cannot go for a run with you dog, they would have the equipement. This is getting crazy about animals... I would never replace the time of the walk with the dog... this is good for him and good for me!

4. Looks like animal abuse to me. The dog is caged in on the treadmill and has no choice but to keep running with it. Maybe after a few dogs die someone will stop this abuse.

5. Not even the animals know what to do without the bionic woman.

6. This is not new. Jog A Dogs have been used for years by dog show folks. It's safer than biking a dog or running them where there's traffic. At least with Jog A Dog treadmills, the point is not to leasurely walk a dog, but keep the dog moving at a good trot, much better exercise and keeps an animal in peak condition. Not everyone has a few acres for their dogs to run around on. It's not abuse, fit dogs live much longer lives than overweight ones.

8. Here I am, sitting at my computer and I've let the dogs out to pee. They start barking and I'm yelling out the window "Shut Up!!" Today, before I could yell, my parrot told them to "Shut up!" I am no longer needed. I realized how important my dogs are to my lonely life and they have been faithful to humans for ever. Wish the fundlementalist's could find the loyalty of a dog in their authentic bible's I just might believe there is a god.

9. be careful and check the laws where you live - dog treadmills (professionally made and homemade) are illegal in some counties because they are used to train fighting dogs.

10. NOT SAFE FOR THE DOGS. I HATE THIS IDEA. HOW IDIOTIC. SOME GREEDY PERSON WATCHED "DOG WHISPERER" AND GOT A FANCY IDEA I SEE. I LOVE THE DOG WHISPERER, DON'T GET ME WRONG. CESAR MILAN USES A TREADMILL WITH DOGS, BUT HE'S INTELLIGENT AND CONSCIENTIOUS TOO. BUT IMAGINE HOW MANY FAT SLOBS WILL FALL ASLEEP ON THEIR SOFAS WHILE THEIR DOGS ARE FORCED TO WALK 100 MILES.

12. This is not necessarily a bad idea, judging by some of the other comments. Consider, for instance, the greater need for exercise for high energy breeds like Parson Jack Russell Terriers when living in relatively confined or otherwise restricted environments. I would agree that a treadmill is no substitute for exploration and environmental acclimation, but may be useful for supplemental exercise. Where caged squirrels and other rodents readily adapt to exercise wheels and humans make use of all manner of exercise apparatus, it only makes sense that dogs be adaptable to and trained on fitness equipment.

13. Do they make them for cats?

14. Were the streets safe to take a walk or a jog, something like this wouldn't be needed. However, as many joggers with their dogs are attacked by dogs off of their leashs - or having to step and slide in something left behind by another one - this gadget is a viable alternative for those that want their dogs to stay in shape (and healthy) like they do. What happens on the rainy days your dog doesn't want to go out and walk or run? For the snowy, icy days... you don't like to go out on those barefooted, do you? And the salt inside the dog's pads is harmful too...
