TMZ has learned the plan to get Britney into UCLA Medical Center had been hatched for days -- it was aborted last night, but executed just minutes ago.
Back at her house, Britney's psychiatrist told her she was going to the hospital. Her response was, "Is something wrong?" She was not resistant. She made hot chocolate and waited before paramedics arrived and placed her on a gurney.
We're told the psychiatrist felt her condition had deteriorated. Britney had not slept since Saturday -- a day and half longer than she stayed up in recent memory.
The reason she's at UCLA is her new treating psychiatrist practices out of that medical center.
We're told during her initial 72-hour stay she cannot be forced to take medication against her will. If, however, she refuses to take meds, the plan is for the the psych to go to court and have Britney held for an additional 14 days, during which time she can administer proper medications.
And get this ironic twist -- Lynne Spears and Adnan drove to the Medical Center in the same car. A source tells us when Lynne found out Britney was being committed, she blamed it on Sam and was extremely agitated. When Brit heard that, she screamed to her mother, "Shut the hell up."

its really too bad that the press has to do this... dont they realize if they actually leave her alone she has a better chance at recovering? if the press keep bombarding her like this she's likely to be the next hollywood suicide
i truly feel for her. she was so sweet untill her divorce...anyone rember that..when we all hated kevin and said she deserved better hmmmmm nope everyone is so ready to jump on her mistakes!! i truly believe she is a good person. the only reason this is such a HUGE deal is becasue she is famous...i have an aunt who is bipolar and she was the SAME EXACT WAY but now she is amazing!! the most amazing, strong and beautiful person you could ever meet...is the whole world gonna turn on ppl with mental problems that they cannot control?? i understand she has a drug problem but if you speak with any doctor that is just as much an illness as being bipolar...is the world gonna turn on ALL ppl with drug problems too??? if she is WILLING to get the help she needs i have a tremendous amount of respect for her!! she is trying but no-one wants to see that! they all just wanna see her fail. i feel badly for her children and how they must feel. but you know what one day she will get better...and all this will be a distant memory...something she can look back and think of...something that can make her stronger.
Geez. Everyone is ranting and raving over this whole thing. And to the people who keep saying leave her alone, give her privacy, blah blah blah. If you really feel that way, then why on earth are you looking at her stories on TMZ? She's famous, and this is the price that goes with it. You can't mentally breakdown in private. And that is exactly what has happened to her. Fame, and fortune, and motherhood. It's all to much for this warped little girl to handle. I don't feel sorry for her so much as I feel for her children. She just needs this help right now to get her head screwed back on her shoulders, and take control of her life. I wish her luck with everything.
It's likely she'll flip out again and refuse meds, so I hope the shrink is already in contact with their attorney to get the 14 day stint in motion.
I really feel for Britney. I have a son who's Bipolar, and Brit displays all of the same attributes. I really hope she gets the help that she needs. Problem is - she has to want the help, or she's doomed to repeat this same scene over and over. How sad for her boys.
This would all be well and dandy if this attention whore was actually mentally ill.
She'll be out and partying at the hotel by this weekend. Mark my words and respect my authoritah!

I care about Brit. I'm glad she's committed. It's for her own good. That stupid Lynne Spears is just a POOR excuse for a mother! It's been reported that Brit lost her virginity at age 14 and was experimenting with drugs at age 14. Where was Brit's parents??! Clearly, Brit needs to be hospitalized!
