Don't Get Mad, Get GLAAD

So this is hilarious. GLAAD (Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation) has issued a statement, responding to Greasy Bear lashing out at paps last night, using the words "nigger" and "faggot."

GLAAD told TMZ, "It is unfortunate that we live in a society where some individuals of note are harassed by paparazzi, but responding to them with racist and anti-gay slurs is simply unacceptable behavior."

Ok, where to begin. First, we didn't know GLAAD had a dog in the paparazzi fight. Second, it kinda sounds like GLAAD has a little sympathy for young Brandon Davis -- harassed by the paparazzi and all.

But more telling, when you watch the video, Brandon is not being harassed at all when he uses the word "faggot." Actually, he was just asked about his brother Gummi's weight loss, and just blurted it out. He said this an hour after the "nigger" comment and at an entirely different location.

Hey GLAAD...that's really B-O-L-D.

16. Paps can be ruthless, nasty, annoying, cruel. They have made the lives of at least a few notable celebs absolute misery.

HOWEVER

You don't words like that about ANYBODY. The terms used by this pig are beyond the pale. TMZ and others would do us all a favor by never showing his picture or name again. He does nothing. He knows nothing. He IS nothing. Lose him.

17. Every time you see this guy, going into a fancy restaurant, party, fashion show, movie premier, anything, he looks like he has not taken a shower, washed his hair, or even seen a bar of soap in a year, what is the deal - is this the new fashion trend amongst the "Noveau Riche"? And, the same goes for the Olsen twins, come on ladies, you look like modern day bag ladies in Bentley's, wash your hair, wash your faces, and for goodness sake brush your teeth, and if that is too much to ask, then just go to a spa. I pitty the guys and gals from TMZ and the other media outlets that have to feign friendship and commraderie with this group, you must put Vicks vapor rub under your noses before approaching your quarry, otherwise the tears in your eyes would wreck the shots - in my book you guys earn all the money you get. And, for the two photograhpers that got insulted by this idiot, if me and the boys ever see him, do not worry, there will be payback.

21. Debates over the origins of racism often suffer from a lack of clarity over the term. Many conflate recent forms of racism with earlier forms of ethnic and national conflict. In most cases ethno-national conflict seems to owe to conflict over land and strategic resources. In some cases ethnicity and nationalism were harnessed to wars between great religious empires (for example, the Muslim Turks and the Catholic Austro-Hungarians). As Benedict Anderson has suggested in Imagined Communities, ethnic identity and ethno-nationalism became a source of conflict within such empires with the rise of print-capitalism.

In its modern form, racism evolved in tandem with European exploration and conquest of much of the rest of the world, and especially after Christopher Columbus reached the Americas. As new peoples were encountered, fought, and ultimately subdued, theories about “race” began to develop, and these helped many to justify the differences in position and treatment of people whom they categorized as belonging to different races (see Eric Wolf’s Europe and the People Without History).

Another possible source of racism is the misunderstanding of Charles Darwin’s theories of evolution. Some took Darwin’s theories to imply that since some “races” were more civilized, there must be a biological basis for the difference. At the same time they appealed to biological theories of moral and intellectual traits to justify racial oppression. There is a great deal of controversy about race and intelligence, in part because the concepts of both race and IQ are themselves controversial.
