Contraception Leads to more abortions!

Read this article - there is evidence out that that shows contraception of any kind leads to more abortions in America. Students don't need more contraception! They need to practice abstinence!

The Case Against Contraception
One of the most common claims made in favor of contraception is that a widespread provision of contraceptives would reduce abortion. However, the evidence does not bear out this claim. In practice, contraceptives radically alter human behavior, such that the end result is more abortion, not less.

The following statistics and observations from both sides of the abortion issue provide some insight into why this is so—why contraception increases abortion contrary to what many would expect.

FACT: The majority of women who abort their babies were using contraception when they became pregnant.
—Alan Guttmacher Institute, research arm of Planned Parenthood
Contraceptive failure rates:
The Pill: 7%
Condom: 16%
Diaphragm: 22%
Spermicide: 30%
Figures are even higher for unmarried people.
—National Survey of Family Growth
"[F]or every 1,000 teens between 15 and 19 years of age enrolled in family planning clinics, we can expect between 50 to 120 more pregnancies."
—Institute for Research and Evaluation director Stan E. Weed
"Contraceptive users appear to have been more motivated to prevent births than were nonusers."
—Alan Guttmacher Institute researcher Stanley K. Henshaw
"With effective contraception controlled by women, there are still more abortions than ever. . . . [C]ontraception causes abortion."
—Sociologist Lionel Tiger, 1999
"At the risk of being repetitious, I would remind the group that we have found the highest frequency of induced abortions in the group which, in general, most frequently uses contraception."
—Notorious "sexologist" Alfred Kinsey, 1955
"As people turn to contraception, there will be a rise, not a fall, in the abortion rate."
—Abortionist Malcolm Potts, 1976
"There is overwhelming evidence that, contrary to what you might expect, the provision of contraception leads to an increase in the abortion rate."
—Abortionist Judith Bury, 1981
"The close connection which exists, in mentality, between the practice of contraception and that of abortion is becoming increasingly obvious."
—Pope John Paul II, 1995
"That same selfishness that wants to prevent the child by contraception will grow until it wants to kill the child already conceived."
—Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta
The link between abortion and contraception was explored in great detail at the Pro-Life Action Leauge's September 22-23, 2006 conference, "Contraception Is Not the Answer." You can read all about it or order CDs of the conference talks from LCE Media online by phone at 800-693-3884, or by mail or fax with our printable CD Order Form [PDF].

I don't care about her but I laugh at your American system.
In canada, I pay 6-15 dollars for a 28 day pack, the one that you pay 88 dollars for.
So it goes to show that you are being had by the drug companies.

you

Don't downplay a young actress speaking out for womens rights. This should be a story with a positive message that Amber is supporting the Feminist Majority, not focusing on cheap birthcontrol for teens. Shame on you TMZ.

WHO WROTE THE COMMENTARY ON THIS STORY? YOU ARE AGAINST BIRTH CONTROL?
YOU SHOULD KEEP YOUR PATHETIC OPINION TO YOURSELF. THE YOUNG WOMEN OF TODAY NEED ROLE MODELS SUCH AS THIS; OR WOULD YOUR RATHER THEM HAVE THOUSANDS OF ABORTIONS? THE IRRESPONSIBLE COMMENTARY NEEDS TO BE EDITED OUT. THIS IS THE WORST INFORMATION I HAVE EVER SEEN ON TMZ.

Here lies and opportunity for education! Only if an intelligent debate grows from it.
And that is up to the readers. Let's try to find the highest form of communication on this particular topic.
Not the lowest common denominator of trash talk. I dare you all.

It would be a perfect world if ALL TEENS would practice abstenince. The reality is that will never happen. Teens can be informed and educated but when hormones start raging and there is an absent of parents things will happen. To say no form of contraception will keep teens from having sex is insanity. I will educate and communicate with my teen and hopefully my child will take my advice. If they do not I do not want the having unprotected sex.

This debate will never be resolved, but I think Ambers intetions and cause are a good thing.

haha....ha

I really wish that Amber was around to talk to the parents of the person who wrote this awful story. Unfortunately some less knowledgeable people (such as the "reporter" behind this "awe-shocking" story) will read this story and think it is about sex when, in fact, it is about birth control. Amber Tamblyn is trying to decrease the number of pregnancies among high school and college-aged students. She's a good spokesperson too, seeing as many of these kids are her same age and may look up to her or at least respect the work she's done. By the way, last I checked, I don't recall reading about Amber's crazy nights out at the clubs. Save all the talk about promoting sex for Paris and Lindsey, thank you very much.

Baseball Junkie

As usual, TMZ takes an important story and tries to make something stupid out of it. The point of Amber Tamblyn's activism is that people have sex no matter what they're told. They always have and they always will. How many centuries has the Christian church been preaching abstinence and that's worked great hasn't it. The real problem with preaching abstinence is that the kids believe that it's a sin to have condoms so when they have sex, they get pregnant. And they're told that abortion is a sin so they have babies they're too young to take care of. And all too many of those teenage parents end up abusing their children because they are so frustrated and can't deal with how much care babies need. It's all a vicious cycle.
If people actually use birth control and use it properly they don't have children they can't support. Most of the statistics quoted for failed birth control are because it was used improperly. A condom won't stop a pregnancy if it isn't worn right or if it breaks. The birth control pill won't work if you don't take it according to the directions. The diaphragm doesn't work if you don't position it right. People who try to use the rhythm method are usually known as parents. So if you don't want people to have abortions, you have to educate them about the proper use of birth control.

BTW: If the Canadian health system is so wonderful, why do Canadians come down to the US to get operations so they don't have to wait until their number comes up. When I needed an operation on my foot, it was arranged within two weeks and my health insurance paid all but $40 of it. I'll take $40 over waiting in pain until the system got around to helping me any day. And, no, my prescriptions didn't cost a lot either.
