"DWTS" -- Deaf and Numb

4/29/2008 11:27 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Cristian de la Fuente thinks the ruptured tendon in his left arm is comparable to the fact that Marlee Matlin is deaf.

He told Tom Bergeron and Samantha Harris that if he were voted on to the next round, he would power through his injury, saying, "Weeks ago, a deaf woman took the chance of dancing. I can dance."

If only he were mute.

I interpreted the comment as "If Marlee can overcome a disability, I can overcome an injury." I think it was one of those things that sounds good in one's head but once verbalized sounds bad. English is not his first language and I think his thought was lost in translation. I noticed Bergeron cut him off and moved right along. I'm a Latina and in Latin American countries there is no such thing as being politically correct to the extreme as it's taken here. I disagree w/the exact words he used but I understood what he meant.

Do not let the media brainwash you, people.

What Christian meant is that a person with a disability participated in the dancing competition, so he can do it too.

No way he meant to offend Marlee or to compare both conditions.

He had but a second to speak, so he abbreviated his sentence. I am sure that any intelligent human being would analyze the entire situation and come to this conclusion.

Those with obtuse minds would analyze the comment to mean something as heinous as it has been concluded here.

Shame on you TMZ.
