Jacob the Jeweler to Bling it Behind Bars

Can you ice out a prison cell? Hip-hop bling king Jacob the Jeweler has just been sentenced to two and a half years in the federal pen for lying to investigators looking into a multi-state drug ring.

43-year-old Jacob Arabov copped a plea last October to doctoring records and lying to the Feds.

In court Jacob said, "I feel ashamed that I broke the laws of this country, a country that has been so good for me. I will carry this shame for the rest of my life."

Cops arrested the jeweler in 2006 at his Manhattan shop on charges he and several others conspired to launder roughly $270 million in drug profits.

"Prosecutors had asked that he get three years, but a judge, citing Jacob's work with charities, gave him a break."
Al Capone had soup kitchens for the poor. It didn't make him any less a murdering crook.
Donations to charities by crooks is a contrived way of reducing punishment when caught. It's a shame the judge bought in to it.

$270 million. Laundering drug profits. He feels bad.

Yeah. He should sure feel bad about it.

And I'm sorry, but your charity work doesn't make up for it, either. It may have gone a long way to salve his conscience, but it doesn't do a thing for me. He profited from the sale of drugs through money-laundering. The same drugs that are enriching the greedy cartels and causing irreparable harm to millions, a blight on our economy and a breakdown of our social structure.

Eh.

Another stupid story by TMZ's uneducated chimpanzees:  1328 days ago

So, regarding this FORIEGN drug money launderer...

The average drug money laundering fees (per the movie "Scarface") are 5% of the gross. 5% of $270 Million is $13.5 Million. And he only gets 2.5 years in jail because of his "charitable donations". And he potentially can stay in the country after serving his time. Sounds like a deal to me.

Another example of how our court system is spineless. I say deport his dumb ass back to Argentina; they have STRICT drug laws back there. He'll be llama food in no time...

To #9 you guys should all be ashamed

The way the Feds work it is that in order to catch what they believe are the bigger "fish", they net the smaller "fish" as targets of prosecution. Then they load them up with about a zillion charges and tell them that they will be facing 17 lifetimes in jail unless they turn witness. They then drop several of the original charges and make the "target turned witness" feel like they got a good deal. It has worked very successfully for the Feds in the past.

Problem is, sometimes it is actually the "little fishys" who are actually big fishy's in minnow's clothing who escape through the net by distracting their attention and fixing blame on someone other than themselves. The Feds don't always care if it is the truth as long as they win.
