"Lost in Space" Actor Has Died

Bob May -- who played The Robot in "Lost in Space" -- died early this morning at the Lancaster Community Hospital in California.

A rep for Bob said he was taken to the hospital on Friday, and died at around 3 AM this morning of congestive heart failure.

Back in November, Bob had a stroke soon after a fire consumed his California home.

Patricia Arthur, May's long time friend and agent, "asks all his fans to take a moment of silence as one of Science Fiction's greatest has passed. Family and friends will miss him dearly."

Bob was 69.

31. You know Life really sucks sometimes. The poor man who entertained and brought happiness to millions loses his house, has a stroke and finally dies. I'm stunned and speechless that fate can be so cruel.
Godspeed Mr. May.

33. To the family and friends of the wonderful Bob May, my sincere condolences, thoughts and prayers are with you.

I never met him, but saw him interviewed several times. He was obviously a delightful gentleman who loved his work and cared so much for his fans. As one who grew up with and loved the original series in the '60s, I will miss Bob May.

God Bless Bob May.

34. How sad to hear this. He was one of my favorite characters on the show. I remember watching it overseas in the 60's.
It was a big hit on the Beirut television station that broadcast it.

35. Bob May will truly be missed by all that have had the opportunity to meet him.

The LIS Robot was a big Sci-Fi figure, but if you've ever had the luck to actually meet the man, you'd know the LIS Robot's popularity was only dwarfed by the size of the man insides heart & love for everyone that he met.

My heartfelt condolences to Bob’s Family and Friends.

He was a truly wonderful person.

I love you Bob.

36. Why would a bunch of us kids from the 1960s and subsequent generations love and reverve a prop machine? Because Bob May brought it to life and gave it an endearing personality. He made the portrayal into a legendary and iconic figure which will not be forgotten and is passed on to others to cherish.

I met the man once at a convention and had a wonderful time talking to him. He really loved the fans and his place in history. We shall miss him but his work remains behind to bring us happiness.

39. Bob was not famous in the way big screen acots were, but Bob was very dear to our hearts. My husband is his webmaster and handler for shows and we love him for much more than his Robot persona. He and his family are dear, sweet people; down to earth and real and compassionate, charming and witty, humorous and loving. Those qualities, much more so than any acting credits, make Bob a huge star in my heart. If you didn't know him, you missed out on knowing a truly great man. All my love, Bob. Rest in God's grace.

40. I'm a close friend to Mr. Bob May;s agent and at one of the events that he appeared at his agent handed her phone over to Mr. May. Having grown up and loving 'Lost in Space' series it was more then an honor to speak to the man. Mr. May's wonderful sense of humor shined and his laughter was contageous. May his family feel the peace and joy they he brought to many, remember the laughter and know he is in a good place now and looking down watching his family knowing one day you all will be one again.

May all those who post synical comments think before doing so, commenting on a great person without thinking hurts the family and friends. Also makes you look ignorant. What if it was your dad or husband? Kindness is always better.

43. For all of you that love my Dad so much and have expressed concern for the listing that he had a stroke, that is wrong information. My dad has never had a stroke at any time in his life. He and my Mom did loss their home and everything in it in the fires that took so many homes in the San Fernando Valley in November and they were living with me and my son while they looked for a new home. But, Dad was doing good. My Dad was himself and telling jokes and laughing right up to the time of his death. He did have Congestive Heart Failure, which is why we lost him. He had fought along time but was doing well and his death was very unexpected. I want you all to know that he recieved the best care possible and everything that could be done to save him was done. The report that stated he was taken to the hospital Friday night from my home is true and we were by his side the whole time. The report that he passed away early Sunday morning is also true, he was in our arms and being loved by his family. Thank you so much for wanting to find out the truth about my Dad and for loving him so much! I am so proud to be his Daughter and will miss him everyday!
