Actually despite USA softball not winning gold at this olympics TMZ is not factually incorrect. The statement was Jenny Finch won a gold medal in the same games as Phelps. That did happen in 2004 when USA softball softball won the gold and Phelps won several golds.

Sigh....I am so tired already about the media coverage involving the Michael Phelps scandal. Hmm...let's see, he won his country 14 medals!! I understand that from a business end, people are going to be asses and drop him but let us keep one thing in mind: he's learning just like the rest of us! If anything, this makes him more human and therefore more understandable; I'm not saying let the guy completely off the hook but sheesh its good to see that when times are tough, true friends resurface. It's so ridiculous how stars are put on this pedestal by the media and the second they f-up, all of a sudden they're criminal. I don't need to look up to someone that's perfect, I need to know that even the best of them fall sometimes and when they pick themselves up, they're as human as the rest of us.
