but somehow classical music listeners are (well) below average in this survey (and overlapping with hip-hop listeners!)

36. i think what this study shows, is that next to brilliance, often lays massive retardation ( the one's who listen to the counting crows), but then everything else continues in a normal degression/progression...cuz listening to Beyonce or Lil Wayne is definitely more sane than the counting crows.

Maybe because college kids that are listening to Mozart and Beethoven still haven't found themselves and are pretty much 'mammas boys' also know as anti social or not exactly into the social scene, which in turn makes them out of touch and out of date. If you gave a test on current event news I'm sure the Beethoven fans would fail miserably and probably couldn't even name a Lil Wayne song.

39. Okay, I'm a college student and I'm not a lil' Wayne but this study is completely ambiguous and general. Sure lil wayne isn't the rapper with the best lyrics, but I can see how his songs can be catchy and the beat to a lot of them are pretty descent. Also, a college student who listens to beethoven? I personally have yet to meet a single one who has beethover on his/her ipod. I like Beyonce AND T.I and my combined score on the SAT was 1920/2400, dumb? whatever, the SAT is a stupid test which tests us on crap we will never need to know.

40. People who listen to rap music for entertainment purposes only (going to a bar, dancing, etc.) are generally not stupid. But people who actually listen and love rap music (not all rap music, but many of the big artists now such as lil' wayne) are stupid. Come on, how can you listen to the lyrics about rims, cars, whores, drugs, etc. and not lose brain cells? It's terrible. These songs offer no meaning, story line, complex musical instruments, nothing! It's just a beat with lyrics made for amusement or retards who actually listen and believe it. I remember when rap music actually meant something...back when it wasn't just about shaking asses...and I'm only 24.

41. Hey now!... I love Lil Wayne... and I scored a 29 on my ACT's... However, I also like several other genres of music (including that 90's Matchbox 20 type stuff).

P.S. Lil Wayne actually got straight A's through school and attended college- University of Houston (which is a lot more than most rappers can say for themselves).

42. You can tell who has never heard a Lil Wayne CD or even heard him speak. Despite his looks Wayne is a very intelligent young man. While he might throw in some curse words here and there and call women out of their names Tha Carter III was positive for the most part. At least listen to some of it online before you come on her sounding stupid by attributing behavior to him that is inaccurate.

Who listens to music for anything other than "entertainment purposes"? That's what music is for, entertainment. Whether it's hip-hop, RnB, Classical, etc. Rap offers no story line? Classical certainly offers no "story line". And as far as the "complex musical instruments" argument goes, what exactly is a complex musical instrument? Every genre of music combines pretty much the same instruments: drums, percussion, keys, strings, bass. And here's something for you: if someone sings to a simple piano melody, is that considered "retarded" because it's not "complex"? You are a moron.

44. Eh, I find this pretty unlikely since most people don't just listen to only one artist, so people would be all over that board.
Maybe a few really stupid people only listened to lil wayne and they only found that one genius who listens to beethoven or something.
But seriously, I listen to T.I., Third Eye Blind, Coldplay, and Beethoven and my SAT score was higher than the chart. And I know at least one Harvard grad med student who's lil wayne's biggest fan.

And anyways, Rock as a whole did pretty bad, so you could draw really ridiculous conclusions from the chart-Eminem listeners had a higher average than your average Rock listener. Doesn't mean listening to Rock makes you a dumbass either.
