The NYC medical examiner's office says Natasha Richardson died of blunt impact to the head.
A spokeswoman for the ME says the death has been ruled an accident. The cause of death is "epidural hematoma due to blunt impact to the head."
Dr. Wouter Schievink, a neurosurgeon at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, tells TMZ a common example of someone suffering an epidural hematoma is when a baseball player is hit on the side of the head by a pitch.
He also says that an epidural hematoma can be detected by a CT scan. But sometimes if the scan is performed early on, the injury might not be detected.

Never has a day gone by that I stopped wishing that my mom was still here with me to share in all the joys of life. God Bless Natasha and her family!
I thought maybe she had some other condition. Tragic accident. Lovely Lady.

This board is filled with morons.
So very sad, my deepest sympathy goes out to the family & friends of this beautiful woman. We must all remember life can be gone in an instant & always tell the people we love how much they mean to us.
she really must have hit the ground very hard for it to have happen like that. All beginners should wear helmets from now on.
She hit her head. We already know that. We all bump our heads from time to time and don't go rushing off the to hospital for a brain scan. She didn't loose consciousness so why would she or the ski patrol take it seriously? This was a freakish, yet tragic accident, that may or may not have been avoided by wearing a helmet. People die every year on the slopes wearing a helmet. In fact, over half of those that died were wearing helmets. Ever hit a tree at 40 mph? Not even body armor would save you. So let's not over react or some idiot government official will be asking that everyone wear a helmet 24/7.
