Chris Brown Cops Plea

No Jail Time

6/22/2009 6:30 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Chris Brown has copped a plea in his assault case. He won't do jail time, but he will spend 6 months doing things like road cleanup. He's also been ordered to stay 50 yards clear of Rihanna.

Chris Brown & Rihanna: Click to watch
He'll spend 180 days doing community labor (8 hours a day -- 1440 hours total) -- which is, in effect, hard labor. He'll do his service in Virginia which is where Brown lives. A Virginia law enforcement officer told us Brown will be picking up trash, pulling weeds and washing fire trucks.

He gets 5 years probation for FELONY assault -- he pled guilty. He'll get supervised probation. He'll have to come back to court every three months.

He must enroll in a domestic violence counseling program.

This is interesting ... the judge said if Brown and Rihanna are at the same public events, the 50-yard stay away turns into 10 yards. The stay away order lasts 5 years.

The judge said she wanted to make sure that Chris Brown "was treated as any other person who comes through this court."

If Brown violates probation, he could get up to 4 years in prison.

Rihanna is in the courthouse but never entered the courtroom.

So Brown is now a convicted felon and loses the following rights: To own a gun, to sit on a jury, subject to search and seizure without a search warrant and he now has limitations on travel.

When Brown left the courtroom ... Rihanna walked in the courtroom. The judge explained the deal to her. The judge is telling Rihanna about the protective order.

Truth Hurts

This is kind of fair...losing those personal rights due to the felony charge seems unfair for a first time offender (maybe he has some juvenile files???) but the 5 year probation, community service and mandatory counseling are absolutely appropriate, especially since Rihanna didn't seem to want to press charges (she started it). Boys should never hit girls, but girls should never hit guys either. It's a two-way street.

I wish I was a celebrity so I could beat up on people and get away with it. Why do I get the feeling the roadie from Black Eyed Peas will get a harsher sentance for smacking Perez Hiltons Bitch ass up.

You could have made a difference, now you are just another dumb woman who is afraid to stand up for herself.

What kind of a monster beats a woman to pulp? A MONSTER, that's who!

Stay in Virginia, Ike Turner, no one in the music industry cares about you. YOU ARE FINISHED, FELON!

141. See TMZ yall messy...he can't vote until his probation is OVER...guess what he can vote in the next presidential election lol

Sorry Michelle, since he is serving his sentence in Virginia he will lose his right to vote for life. He may however apply to have his voting rights restored, five years after he completes his probation. So that's a good ten years minimum before he will be able to vote again.

Under Virginia's constitution, people convicted of a felony automatically lose their right to vote for life, which has resulted in an estimated 300,000 residents being disenfranchised, even though they are not in prison.

But a Virginia governor can restore a felon's voting rights. Under a process set up by former governor Mark R. Warner (D) , felons convicted of nonviolent crimes can apply to have their voting rights restored if they have a clean record for three years after their sentence has been completed. People convicted of violent felonies, which in Virginia includes selling drugs, have to wait five years.

If she is that stupid to want to be with him after this and go back to him then this is not a case of a battered person with nowhere to go...I can't feel sorry for her. Go see a therapist. Get your self esteem in check. This guy is not right for you. If he knocks your block off...then it is not like you haven't been warned from Oprah on down the line. He doesn't love you. And will cheat the first chance he gets. You are a "thing" to him. Good luck with that. If she does decide to stupidly go back to him. Can't feel sorry for her if she does and won't.

Geez, are some of you idiots that stupid. First of all, for those of you who keep getting on Rihanna for not testifying get the story straight first. She showed up to testify and was told she didn't have to because that punk Chris Brown plead guilty and copped a plea deal before she even arrived. He knew that she was cooperating with the prosecution and he probably would have gotten a harsher sentenced than he received had she testified. And I do agree with some of you he did get off kind of easy, if it was one of us we definitely would have been senteced to a couple of years plus what he received. And for you females, I highly doubt you would have the same attitude about Chris Brown if it was you he beat the hell out of. Now I was a fan of both (not Chris anymore), but I am not immature, stupid or star struck to say it is ok for any celebrity to do what he did or any other crime because I like their music, movies, sports accomplishments, etc. Wrong is wrong and he didn't nearly get what he deserved.

Support Monica's Law in NJ

TMZ stop deleting my damn posts. It's not like I am promoting a dating site or something. I am supporting stiffer punishments for violators of restraining orders so that what happened to Monica Paul will not happen to others.
