Chris Brown Cops Plea

No Jail Time

6/22/2009 6:30 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Chris Brown has copped a plea in his assault case. He won't do jail time, but he will spend 6 months doing things like road cleanup. He's also been ordered to stay 50 yards clear of Rihanna.

Chris Brown & Rihanna: Click to watch
He'll spend 180 days doing community labor (8 hours a day -- 1440 hours total) -- which is, in effect, hard labor. He'll do his service in Virginia which is where Brown lives. A Virginia law enforcement officer told us Brown will be picking up trash, pulling weeds and washing fire trucks.

He gets 5 years probation for FELONY assault -- he pled guilty. He'll get supervised probation. He'll have to come back to court every three months.

He must enroll in a domestic violence counseling program.

This is interesting ... the judge said if Brown and Rihanna are at the same public events, the 50-yard stay away turns into 10 yards. The stay away order lasts 5 years.

The judge said she wanted to make sure that Chris Brown "was treated as any other person who comes through this court."

If Brown violates probation, he could get up to 4 years in prison.

Rihanna is in the courthouse but never entered the courtroom.

So Brown is now a convicted felon and loses the following rights: To own a gun, to sit on a jury, subject to search and seizure without a search warrant and he now has limitations on travel.

When Brown left the courtroom ... Rihanna walked in the courtroom. The judge explained the deal to her. The judge is telling Rihanna about the protective order.

Just a thought you can vote if your a convicted felon. You just cant vote while on probation or parole. At least in Indiana thats the law. I voted and i'm a convicted felon twice unfortunately.

He should have taken a straight 4 year sentence, he would have been out in 6 months, and could have resumed his career. See Paris, Nicole, Lindsay, dthey o 1/10th their time in LA due to overcrowding. The public would have felt like he paid for what he did and been more forgiving. Now he is in limbo for 5 years, you know he will mess up and have to do time anyway. Dumb MF

Once she hit him, all he had to do was pull over and get out of the car. To these no-brain girls who say she deserved it and he was defending himself, the "self defense" crossed the line once he slammed her head into the window...oh yea and then started driving again while he hit her, put her in a headlock nearly making her unconcious, biting her, punching her some more, and throwing her phone out the window so she couldn't call anyone for help. Yea, he sounds like such a winner, no wonder you LUV CHRIS 4 LYFE!! OMG!! OMG!! Sorry girls, celebrity crushes seldom pan out in your favor.
So, Rihanna haters, tell me you wouldn't get emotional if the person you loved was doing someone behind your back. She was not in the driver's seat or able to get out of the car while it was moving. She did not bruise and batter him.
Your self-worth should be so much more, all of you who think it would be worth dating an abuser, just because he's cute or can sing a love song.

If you remember Rihanna didn't leave Chris after this -- and I'm betting never would have if it wouldn't have been for her agent, lawyer, everyone else telling her that her reputation and career would be on the line if she didn't. The true story will never be written by the paps. Do I believe Rihanna started this? Most definitely. The woman is never charged. Now think of if she had caused an accident and Chris would have been physically hurt - then who would be in the courts today? I'm not willing to risk taking any side in this issue and will still appreciate Chris Brown's music and talent. Rhihanna is only known for the stupid outfits and do's she wears.......her music will be history.

Way to go Rihanna!! Chris Brown should have gotten jail time to learn a lesson. He wants to walk around acting like he's so high and mighty but when he's walking into a court room he looks like a weak little puppy. Serves him right for beating on a women even IF she was hitting him first. Huge victory for her, I'm just glad that his sorry ass sort of got what he deserved.

the morons who keep saying Rihanna let abused women down, or Rihanna didn't do what she was supposed to do blah blah blah...ummm idiots...if you know how the legal system works you'd know what a dumbass you sound like. RIHANNA SHOWED UP TO COURT TO stand up for herself and all abused women...CHRIS BITCH BROWN is the person who pussed out and took a plea bargain because he is GUILTY and didn't want a trial where they would give him jail HE PLEAD GUILTY TO FELONY ASSAULT CHARGES!!

This is a bunch of crap. He should be doing jail-time. I won't support either artist. There are plenty of other artists out there who I respect, and would much rather listen to anyway. So sad to see such talent wasted on people who don't use their fame to do good in the world. I hope he realizes how lucky he is, and takes this as a get out of jail free card. The next time he "makes a mistake" he won't be so lucky. Unfortunately for him he is now a known abuser, a felon, and his fan base has significantly diminished.

Not a clear case of celebrity justice. If he were the average citizen he wouldn't have had to plead to the felony, it would have been more likely a misdemeanor with the same sentence. This was a business decision for all involved - everyone saves face including the prosecutor (for offering the plea); the Judge (for accepting the plea); Rihanna (for agreeing to the plea and preserving her reputation by not testifying); and CB (for pleading out with no jail, and instant street cred). As bad as that sounds, his career will survive this episode and be enhance minus the commercial endorsements (for a while).
