UPDATE: TMZ spoke with a TSA rep who was on scene, who tells us, "There were ice chips in the cup, and that is permitted."
Britney Spears did what no one else we know has ever done at LAX -- she took a Big Gulp-esque drink through security and drank with aplomb as she walked to her plane.
We contacted a security specialist from the TSA who told us screeners have "discretion" when it comes to letting liquids through security.
But we've never met anyone who's ever been able to get anything close to a Big Gulp size of liquid through security.

"IF" there really is discretion then the rational could be they know Brittney is not a terrorist.

There was a time when entertainers were considered only slightly above 'working girls' in their career choice and now we are allowing them to break laws left and right? Seriously? I've had to throw away numerious cups of coffee (including Starbucks bought at the airport right before security) and water before going through security. Nice. Glad to see that the TSA is really treating everyone equally. It's not who it was, it's the principle of the thing. If the rest of us can't bring liquids through then neither should a celebrity.

I would think TMZ would have learned a lesson after being a huge part responsible for Britney's Melt down. But obviously I give their intelligence to much credit. I guess another melt down would fill the pages.
