Smoke and Mirrors...
I know this is yesterday's news--ok maybe older than that, but I gotta put my .02 in on this one. Primarily because Earth Song has to be one of my favorite Michael tracks of all time. I just love the fact that he saw beyond his personal needs and reached to air a world view yet again. While I loved the Michael who wanted to rock with me and thrill me, it was only the foundation for the new milennium Michael who had gotten in touch with his environment on a global scale. For some crazy reason the critics thought his words of wisdom in This Is It was a bit much, but I loved it because it again showed a Michael who was in control and unafraid to let you know what's on his mind. You could feel his passion as he spoke of the Earth and our need to get it right before it's gone. So, that said, I have a few things:
1. The thing about 3d:
I have to say I'm with Janala on this one. Ch'mon folks, we're talking Michael Jackson here. If he was known for anything it was his eye for innovation. How many times have you seen a performance or short film by Michael that was typical of what other artists are doing? Uh-Haw...never. I read an entire article on how Michael was working with this company who specializes in 3d for his concert at 02. They were lamenting the fact that they weren't going to be able to premiere the groundbreaking work they did for Michael. They did say, however, they might continue post production of the film so there may be a re-release of TII in 2010. Anyhow, this is probably why we were treated to the 3d fx on the Grammy's--something that has never been done before on a live TV show. This is all in the tradition of Michael and I respect that the Grammy's wanted to honor that in spite of the minor difficulties some people may have experienced, it's one ceremony that will probably go down in history.
2. Mirror Images: Let me say this: although I was very happy and excited to see artists of this calibre singing a tribute to Michael, it was extremely hard for me to hear them sing his Earth Song without the same passion and drive he has in it. You can almost feel him weeping and moaning for the earth between the lines of the song--knowing Michael, I'm sure he was crying in the studio. I will say that I would've preferred to have Michael on video singing the song by himself, but alas, I had to just wait to hear him in between the others. Overall the performance was good--not inspired, but good. Critics did have problems with the lack of energy the singers had, but I wasn't surprised. First of all, they're not Michael, and second, they were singing a lamentation in honor of the biggest entertainer in the world who died a tragic death in his prime. I think many of the artists may have had trouble working themselves up on this one. Maybe if they had sung another song...who knows. There were a few flies inthe ointment for me. Namely, Usher--he was too energetic, which did not match up with the more reverential mood of the others. Also, he and Smokey (who I love from his musical legacy) were a vocal mismatch on this song. They were off or flat and forced for most of their performances...sorry guys. I was very proud of Carrie Underwood and thought she held her own, Jennifer Hudson gave it her usual signature gospel belt--which worked ok for this song but I preferred her on the "What about Us" drive at the end. Matter of fact, I think they should've just let her do that part by herself and maybe brought in Andrae Crouch's choir to back her up. And then there was Celine. She was my one "awe" moment of the performance because she was the only one who got the spirit of Michael 's vocal style for the song. She definitely proved why she is still considered one of the best singers in the world--a fact that Michael also knew about her. So anyone still following the mandate to hate her from the Titanic days needs to grow up, quit following everyone else's opinion and recognize great talent...yeah I said it.
3. Back to the Dark ages: What the '93 allegations have to do with this thread I'll never know. But now that you've started it, I'll finish it with this one question: where's your unmitigated proof that Michael committed this heinous crime? And no, you don't get to spout off what you've heard on tabloid mags and online gossip, I'm saying show me proof via the trial transcripts, viable news reports or show me proof that you, yourself were present when it occurred and then I'll consider it may be true. Truth is, you won't be able to provide me with any of these anymore than the Prosecution could in the 2005 case, because the whole thing was setup by a bunch of close-minded racists and money-hungry opportunists--a marriage made in hell. Michael unfortunately became the pawn in this tragedy played out on the world's stage and meant to annihilate him and any legacy he may have had from the face of the earth. But God is i
When did LL Cool J learn to sing? And, can he sing or is he just there for the celebrity of it all. Shameful!!!
that tribute was awesome. i got my this is it music c. d. for valentines day. the music was awesome. he was truly a genius. he put alot of hard work into his music and into his life. he was a hard worker, focused, and a charitable man. you can rest now michael. this crap about peeing in bottles is disgusting to me. when michael died he was sick people all over the world use a bedside urinal. medical persons call it a urinal. michael should have went to mayo's clinic and got a check up by some reputable drs. he deserved it. instead of going to those butchers. I wish I could have helped him. I didnt know he was having problems. i would have insisted he go to the clinic hes 50 you need a check up put him in the car say we are going out and end up at Mayos.
i would say its as simple as this. we can go see the nice people at mayos clinic. you have worked hard you deserve it. or we will go see the boys down at l.a.p.d. and there bad. dont you know there really bad. R.I.P. Michael Joseph Jackson
