Demi Moore's Twitter Stops Possible Suicide

3/19/2010 2:42 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Demi Moore's Twitter exchange with a suicidal 18-year-old may have helped save his life this morning ... but she's not the only actress who stepped up to help the guy out.

Demi Moore Twitter

Turns out Nia Vardalos from "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" called a suicide prevention center in Los Angeles after seeing Demi's grim exchange with the guy -- who was threatening to hang himself in a tree outside of his Florida home.

TMZ has obtained the phone call made between the suicide prevention center and Florida authorities during which Nia is patched in and tells cops everything she knows about the guy from the information on his Twitter account.

Cops were actually able to locate the guy using Nia's info -- and according to the police report, the guy was "sitting at his computer desk crying" when they found him.

Cops say the guy -- who admitted to needing medical help -- was placed under protective custody.

The title "Demi Moore's Twitter Stops Possible Suicide" indicates that Demi herself helped the person however, the actual help came from Nia! I don't know what Demi's response to this guy was but Nia's name should be in the it give the credit to Nia on the title since she herself made to act to help someone!

South Beach

This is my neighbor, and we are all very grateful he was saved. The cooperation and caring starting with Moore and others, from one agency to the next, from CA to FL, stopped a very possible tragic end result.

We thank everyone, truely.

good to hear celebrities really do care...
well, maybe or could it be the hinky meter is high here OR her making a big deal out of it leads more in his state to her twitter account OR that even thee Demi knows that if the guy offed himself what an explosion of bad press that would be. My scenerio bs, beyond that Demi or her twittermaid called Nia and then the story went on.
Celebs, review before allowing posts to go through as this suicide is the tip and will start a trend and eventually you will be paying just to make something go away just because it landed on your twitter or fb.

Twitter Fail

Oh come on. Demi posted one tweet. She DID NOT save his life. She didn't do anything that lead to someone else saving his life. She posted one tweet. If the story is true, it's Nia Vardalos who made the calls that saved the kids life. Demi did what Demi does - tweets. And takes the credit for what someone else did.

Crazy story. Another crazy story I read on TMZ was something about Sandra Bullock and a GPS tracking device

Well why didn't Demi call the police first? All she wrote back was are you kidding? for some other follower to report this to help the guy?
Demi Demi Demi.. should have called right away. Love Demi but that was a Dummy move to not call police after receiving that twitter herself.
