Adderall May Have

Unhinged Lindsay Lohan

8/20/2010 9:00 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Lindsay Lohan's Adderall dependence -- the result of a medical misdiagnosis -- may have been the reason she went off the rails.

As we first reported, the docs at the UCLA rehab facility believe Lindsay was misdiagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder ... and was prescribed Adderall to treat the phantom affliction.

Dr. Joe Haraszti -- a prominent L.A. addiction specialist -- tells TMZ ... people who take Adderall when they don't need it can experience similar effects as people who use cocaine or methamphetamine.

Dr. Haraszti tells us ... people who unnecessarily take Adderall can display manic symptoms ... and often do things like "driving around until all hours of the morning ... smoking heavily ... tweeting ... and texting all night long." The doc adds, "They can become very impulsive."

The doc also notes that people in that situation "might then complain of insomnia and then take Ambien or other sleep aids to help fall asleep ... it's a vicious cycle"

Dr. Marc Kern -- another addiction expert -- tells us alcohol abuse is also very common among patients who take Adderall.

Dr. Kern tells us, "The Adderall counteracts the sedative side effects of alcohol use … making these people often drink more than someone who does not take the drug."

Bottom line -- a bad medical diagnosis may have set the ball rolling that unhinged Lindsay's life.

Oh, please. Can't anyone see this is just another story Lilo's camp has thrown out there? I am SURE the UCLA doctors haven't been talking to the media about Lindsay's 'misdiagnosis!' Doesn't this sound very familiar? Haven't we heard these kind of excuses from Lindsay before?
From now on doctors must be very careful when diagnosing lilo with a condition that excuses her behavior or gives her a way to act crazy and blame it on a 'misdiagnosis'.
She's nothing but a whack job that needs serious help and serious consequences for her behavior!

How nice of the Doc to defend Lindsey. I wonder how much money he is getting and from where. Lindsey obviously was doing coke. There was a photo of it not too long ago on this site even.

TMZ, stop making excuses for this piece of Hollywood trash. Hope we never see her face again in any movie. The doctors treating her should be prescribing suicide.

I wish all my problems would disappear once I start blaming everything/everyone else for my own actions. What ever happened to growing up and accepting responsibility for our own actions? Just Saying...

I smell bulls**t. IF she gets off the Adderall and has no more episodes where she acts like a coked out slut, I might believe it - not before.

I think she's just abusing it to get high in a 'legal' way.

SISTER SISTER

Misdiagnosed-She faked ADHD to get the meds. Again, she is gonna blame someone and something else to avoid taking responsibility for her actions. Newsflash...if you were taking meds and you suddenly starting feeling and acting weird and showed signs of strange behavior....most people would stop taking the meds or consult with their prescribing doctor to change the meds. Right?

This is a dangerous drug and so many are misdiagnosed. This drug is also rampant through schools. Kids get them and sell them, especially in high schools. Doctors need to be held accountable for prescribing these meds. I feel this is not a drug your reg. doc should be prescribing. Am if wrong but isn't AD the inability to stay focused and not in need of attention. anyway, dangerous drug that is handed out like vitamins and it needs to stop.

Hmm...... And how does this explain the cocaine they found in her pocket when they arrested her for drunk driving for the SECOND time within a few months...

She wasn't misdiagnosed she was given the diagnosis that she paid for. She wanted the drug to get high legally. She is a drug addict that is trying to get her drugs from some starstruck doctor.

BULL****! She got adderall the same way and for the same reason all the other celebutards and socialites get it! She wanted to make sure she stayed skinny, personally I think she looked her hottest around the time of mean girls when she had curves. Misdiagnosis my ass, doctors to the stars should all be held accountable for this ****!

Aston:
She is public by choice. There are many, many, celebrities in the world that can be private when they choose.
If not for the public misbehavior she would have little or no press at all. She would be seen as just another over the hill child star with no or questionable talents.

It is very hard for those perceived as child stars to transition to adult roles. Their audience grows up, matures, their tastes change and they become more sophisticated.
They are no longer impressed with the faces they associate with their childhood. The people they admired when they were children no longer elicit the same sense of idol worship they once did.
For someone who depends on the press for their fame, those who have no body of work to speak for them, who have no sense of who they are as adults, or marketable talent, the end of the road is obscurity.
It would seem this person is soon to be on the nearly endless list of the forgotten.
