TMZ just seems to be taking bits done on other shows such as Letterman and Stern.

if you say you don't like something on TMZ or suggest something doesn't work. Harvey comes on that afternoon and defends it, talks it up. Then Harvey elbows that day's sidekick and says don't you also think it's great? With a gun to his head, the sidekick has no choice but to nod and agree.

so what's the point of have "viewer's comments." why not just have "viewers comments approved by harvey."

Harvey does not have a good comedic view and take on what's funny and what's not funny. If doing standup Harvey would forever be chastising the audience and for not laughing.

Lorne Michaels had a good sense of what the viewers would find funny. But he'd also acquiesce and pull off on something if his writers or the audience weren't on board. He never insisted other people were wrong or off. He wasn't personally vested in his take on things and wasn't sensitive. He knew it was a crap shoot, that only a percentage flies and flew, and was willing to admit he wasn't the ultimate judge and expert. The great comedians check with other comedians and say does this work for you prior to trying the material out. They don't try it out then balk that the audience hasn't howled.

I've been quiet up until now but the show's beginning to lose me. Like when Harvey says we're going to be trying a lot of new things from now on. I realize now this means we're going to be doing a lot of bits that Leno has done over the years. TMZ is trying to be something that it's not. It's like someone giving legal advice having never gone to law school/passed the bar. They're only speculating on what they THINK true legal experts might have to say.

everyone wants to be something that they're not. in basketball the guards want to be forwards. the forwards want to be guards. the centers want to be the coaching staff.

Rock stars want to be porn stars. Comedians want to grab a mike and belt out a top ten all time song and/or write their own. Like Eddie Murphy.

So TMZ and Harvey have the same affliction, it's not a crime but if you're watching TMZ for humor you're SOL. If something's funny on TMZ it's almost by accident or default.
