Lindsay Had Enough Cash For Jewelry Purchase

2/8/2011 2:55 PM PST BY TMZ STAFF

Lindsay Lohan had more than enough cash on hand when she took the $2,500 necklace out of an L.A. jewelry store ... sources tell TMZ.

TMZ broke the story ... the L.A. County District Attorney's Office will file felony grand theft charges against Lohan any day ... though we're told it won't be today.

Sources connected to the case tell us ... Lindsay had around $6,000 in cash with her because she had been eyeing a ring in the store, which was going for $3,400.  Lindsay had gone to the store several times previously, debating whether to buy it.

Short story ... Lindsay had enough money to buy both the ring and the necklace on the day in question.

We've learned the surveillance video shows Lindsay walking out of the store wearing the necklace, without paying.  In the video, the necklace is partially hidden by other jewelry Lindsay is wearing around her neck.

So Duck Lips didn't buy the ring but instead she "took" the necklace? It's irrelevant how much money Duck Lips had on her person because she did not use it to pay for the item that she subsequently walked out of the store with. If they let her get away with that excuse then everybody who wanted to shoplift an item would just have to make sure that they had the cash to cover the cost of the item and then they could try to walk out of the store without paying, and if they were even temporarily successful they could then wear the item for a few weeks and then have the owner of the store seek them out and privately and politely request the return of the stolen, now "used" item. SMDH.

Enough is enough -- Hollywood, it's time to blackball this recidivist criminal.

debating whether to buy it = casing the joint.....

And I also agree that it's strange that she would have that much cash on and, even if she was "debating" on buying some ring. What, no credit or debit cards?

This sounds like a story put out by the Lohan family to push people to believe that she had no reason to steal it. They are always pumping, to the media, how rich and successful she is, in addition to ALL THE MOVIES SHE'S BEING WANTED FOR. Does anybody remember how she was whining to the judge about how she needed to get back to work and couldn't afford the expense of the rehab, in order to minimize the amount of time they demended she spend there?

Whether she had the money on her or not is irrelevent. Rapists can be very attractive men with many prospects of beautiful ladies gushing over them too. They do it for the feeling it gives them to do it, just like many thieves. Not trying to minimize the effects of rape as compared to shoplifters though. Just a parallel for reasoning sake.

Mugger Alert! Lindsay Lohan walks around with $60...00 cash. Why would she have to pay with cash. Doesn't she own any credit cards?

That is an old shoplifting trick. You have cash on you so when they bust you you say you were 'intending' to pay -- and just er, um forgot. That's why Lindsay had the cash on her.

By the way, Radar Online is reporting that Lindsay had two witnesses with her in the store who will testify that she didn't steal the necklace and it was a loaner. We'll see if that floats in court.

1. Typically, shoplifters have enough cash to cover the cost of items they steal. It's not about the money.
2. It seems to obscure the facts of the case when the story goes from never having been in the store to not having the necklace to getting the necklace on loan to never doing the paperwork to the item is not worth the amount quoted by the store and therefore not qualified for felongy theft to it is an assistant's fault for not returning the necklace to it is a sales clerk at the store's fault because she was trying to get Lindsay into trouble.

So much spin. So little time.
Her guilt is irrelevant.
She will walk away from this as well.

And yet...TMZ continues to report as if there was some question involved.

She had $6,000? There's no PROOF of that, and even if she did, that sure ain't enough to pay her rent. Lindsay's rent alone is $7,000 a month, and for somebody who isn't working and doesn't have a job, that's a lot.

I agree with Nos. 1, 2 and 4 above, and anybody who says Lindsay is a Klepto.

Lohan could have no money or a billion bucks. She stole the necklace. Never on a loan, never oops I forgot I had it.

Lohan new damn well it was never paid for, because she stole it.

@sam - not for nothing but, you can have crap credit and stil have a debit card. If you try to spend more than what is in the account, it gets declined. Although some banks don't allow you to get an account with bad credit.

If I were lucky enough to have a girl as special as Lindsay in my life, it would be a genuine pleasure to buy her expensive jewelry just to see her gorgeous smile.
