Chris Brown -- Violent Outburst at 'GMA'

3/22/2011 5:58 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Chris Brown exploded in rage behind the scenes at "Good Morning America" this morning ... smashing a window and storming out without a shirt ... sources tell TMZ ... and it was triggered by on-air questions about the Rihanna incident.

ABC sources tell TMZ ... Brown performed and was interviewed by Robin Roberts live from the Times Square studio when she began asking about the infamous incident.

0322_shattered_glass_TMZ2

Brown tried to redirect the questions to focus on his album -- but Roberts continued to ask about Brown's legal issues stemming from the Rihanna incident.

We're told after the interview, Brown freaked out, storming into his dressing room and screaming so loud, the people in hair and makeup became alarmed and called security.

We're told Brown was out of control, and one source present tells us he smashed a window in his dressing room, and the glass shattered and some shards fell onto 43rd and Broadway.  ABC security tells TMZ ... the window was shattered with a chair.

We're told by the time security rushed the area, Brown had ripped off his shirt and left the building, blowing off another performance he was supposed to do for the ABC website.

And sources say ... on his way out of the building, Brown confronted a segment producer, got in his face and stared him down.   People from the show got in between Chris and the producer to diffuse the situation.

Remember -- Brown is on probation for the felony beating and he's required to obey all laws.

UPDATE 6:49 AM PT:  Brown just tweeted, "I'm so over people bringing this past s**t up!!! Yet we praise Charlie sheen and other celebs for there bulls**t."

UPDATE 6:59 AM PT: Brown has already deleted the previous tweet ... and added a new one that reads, "All my fans!!! This album is for you and only you!!! I'm so tired of everyone else!! Honestly!! I love team breezy!!"

UPDATE 7:48 AM PT: Glass workers just showed up to fix Brown's handiwork.

Robin Roberts -- Chris Approved My Rihanna Q's

Robin Roberts asked Chris Brown if she could ask him about the Rihanna incident BEFORE the live interview began on "GMA" this morning ... this according to sources connected to the production.

0322_chris_brown_GMA_EX

Sources tell TMZ ... Roberts insists both she and other "GMA" staff members spoke with Chris before the interview and asked if it would be OK to ask "a few questions" about the Rihanna incident ... and Chris approved.

As TMZ first reported, Brown flipped out after the interview -- and apparently smashed a window in his dressing room.

Robin is telling people at the show she did NOT try to set him up ... and insists, "I'm pulling for the guy."

As for the broken window, no one in the studio saw Chris throw the chair into the window ... but he was definitely in the dressing room when the window was smashed.

These same actors and celebs are always telling us how to live, really, you want me to live like you...think not...Ask any celeb to donate all their money to whatever charity they like and then live on $50,000 a year...

you should all look back that 2 years ago Chris Brown was 19 and no is a mature at that age. You are comparing him to men who have decades years over him and we need to understand that he is still growing and when will you help this young man to grow up and stop tearing him down. Robin did what her producer wanted her to and that is bring another back man down and it is always our people who they use. He has apolized and you don't heal overnight but I believed if given a chance God, his mother and friends will help him. We all have children who have made mistakes and we ourselves have made mistakes and would like to start that event over and do it different. People black and white, stop making this a racial things because we all make mistakes and no one is perfect. If he wasn't good at what he does you wouldn't have a lot to say and some of you are comparing him to michael, you tore michael down and you wasn't satisfied until he was gone. Now everybody finally see the goood He done. Stop making the same mistakes over again. We cannot keep on being the judge there is only one judge and He is still on the throne and we cannot do that job. Putting a person in prison doen't make a change as you can see from some of the comments. Pray for all our young people because this world is in bad shape and they all our help and Robin, next a person say they don't want to go there listen maybe we could have avoided this if you had only listen to the person. It makes you look bad also and that's not good. Dee

There are many Chris Brown H8TRS in the crowd, and I can understand. I dont believe that you should have to like him or what he did. But comments like... "he shouldnt be able to sell records or be on a show" and he's a woman beater and blah blah blah... I have a very simple message for all of you so called "people". We are human... we ALL make mistakes. But throughout our lives, we are always told to stand up, push (look) forward, dont quit.. I agree with Chris, he was there to promote an album, not bring up "PAST" mistakes. This is television at its best. Digging up OLD drama to get a rise out of someone. Sad really, but Im pretty sure that if I knew you, I could dig up something from you past mistakes to get a rise out of you as well. So, again, he's human, he made a mistake... (and Rihana isnt a saint!) let him move on with his life. No ****s need cut off and everything else ppl were saying.

That crap with Rhinna happened over two years ago. You people ought to get a life and Robin Robbins should be ashamed of herself. I bet nobody posting has a squeaky clean past. If Chris Brown does not want to keep rehashing an incident that happened in his past he has that right and no one should be trying to force him to discuss it. Let all you who want to condemn him and who is without sin cast the first stone.

Reporters love to set people up to get dramatic results. Everytime a person is the victim of a tragedy the idiotic reporter will ask "How do you feel?" Remember how Rosie O'Donnell invited Tom Selleck to her show so he could promote his new show? She ambushed him by continuing to denigrade his membership in the NRA, even though her chauffeur carried a firearm.

I think Robin Roberts was rude to bring up the past, we all have a past it would be rude to relive questions of her cancer. I'm not a mean person, Chris and Rhianna had a bad past of jealous lust of flesh and imature thinking at that time in the past and they have learned and hopefully have grown from there lessons and are moving on with there own careers.

And so Robin should of talked to him about his music career and left Rhianna out. Sometimes people may look bad when things happen but there is always something that only Chris and Rhianna know that we don't so forgiving and forgetting should be left at that and going forward with there lives period.

Forgiveness takes great love and it makes grow in our lives.

And he just needs to find a better way to express his disapointment of Robin's questions to him, which he should have told her politely that he was just going to talk about going forward with his music and not bring up the past, and she should know better.

This is a lack of respect on her part, and common sense that she lacked was ridiculous for a women her age.

Shame! Don't look at the past Robin, let's all go forward in positive life!

@meohmy of comment#586:....Chris's career isn't interesting enough to fill a minute of MTV time, let alone GMA time. To most of the World he is a "woman beater" first and foremost. Did he really think she wouldn't bring up Rhianna? If he did, then he's even DUMBER than he looks, and he looks pretty DUMB to me. Tell me "meohmy" WHAT could have possibly have happened between Chris and Rhianna (that we don't know about) THAT WOULD WARRANT A BEATING LIKE THAT?????? Pretend YOU WERE A JUROR, HOW AND WHAT COULD CHRIS SAY, THAT RHIANNA DID TO HIM, THAT WOULD ALLOW YOU TO SAY..."OK, SHE HAD IT COMING AND I WOULDN'T BLAME MY "SON-IN-LAW, IF HE DID THAT TO MY DAUGHTER. IS THERE ANYTHING THAT WOULD JUSTIFY THAT FOR YOU? Because for me......there is NOTHING,She could have done to deserve a beating like that. He begged the Courts forgiveness, agreed he needed "anger management" counseling, which he received and claimed taught him much about his problem and the proper way to deal (with it). And he was a "new man" as a result. What would you say? I say, "He should have 1) been given 1 to 3 in state prison a large fine. 2) be made to pay Rhianna a few million in damages (weather she wanted it or not)3) 10 years supervised Parole upon the end of his prison time. 4)be made to work in a battered womans shelter for 400 hours 5) to attend counseling sessions of kids whose mothers were killed by the men who abused them. THAT, I BELIEVE WOULD HAVE MADE A LASTING IMPRESSION ON THAT POOR EXCUSE FOR A MAN. AND I GAURENTEE HE WOULD THINK TWICE BEFORE HE PUT HIS HANDS ON ANYONES DAUGHTER AGAIN......IN ANGER OR NOT.

Plain and simple, Chris Brown didn't lean from his past mistake. He's an idiot who should be treated like the rest of us if we'd beat up our woman, gone to jail and then threw a chair through a window (because someone asked him about the previous incident) while still on probation for the original crime. First he viciously attacked Rhianna and now he acted like a baby when asked about it two years later. And he expects people to believe him when he says he's gotten through his anger issues? Sure, and I'm the Duke Of Windsor... Give me a break. This guy needs to have charges filed against him by GMA and ABC for destruction of property. They would have if you or I did it. Why not him. If someone had been walking under that window when Brown threw the chair threw it, somebody could have been hurt or killed. Throw that clown in jail. He's still the same creep he was when he bit and beat up Rhinna. He needs more time behind bars to show him that, that kind of behavior is not acceptable in the civilized world!

even when provoked, we all have a rsponsibiulity to control ourselves, even Chris frickin Brown, he's not above the rules of polite society! Robin's interveiw style was deliberately provacative, I'm sure. some times members of the press will try to push a public figures' buttons. It's up to an individual to control themselves, and not behave inappropriately, acting as if someone elses behavior gives you a pass to act out. it does not. we are all bound by our behavior, it is linked to our integrity. he's not shining right now, maybe he'll improve, who knows? I think it's just a good opportunity to remind ourselves to behave appropriately out of our own self respect, not really based on what other people do or say. reactionary is an unstable state of mind.
