Tressel released a statement this morning, reading, "After meeting with university officials, we agreed that it is in the best interest of Ohio State that I resign as head football coach."

Ohio State has come under investigation from the NCAA for various infractions under Tressel's watch. He was due to be suspended for the first five games of the upcoming season.

NCAA gets rich off the backs of "student athletes". Cartman was right in the "Crack Baby Olympics", student athletes are modern day slaves. The universities participate in legal slavery, working them to the bone physically and academically, while forbidding the players from sharing in the proceeds. NCAA enacts draconian rules with brutal penalties preventing the "student athletes" from enjoying the college life. Meanwhile their colleagues the "non-athletic students" reap the rewards in the form of new buildings and fancy campuses. Then there are the professors who don't do crap but bash the USA and the student athletes but complain because their 80G salaries aren't enough. Time we do away with the anti-capitalistic rules and the stuffed shirts who head the NCAA.
Coach Tressel, thank you for providing OHIO STATE fans with an exciting 106-22-0 record.
BTW Mary Ann- Michigan truly does sucks look at your record.

I stand with Tress 100%. A few years back, my girlfriend (also OSU alumni along with myself) met him in the first-class Continental lounge at the Newark airport. My father had just passed away, a former YSU grad and lifelong OSU fan and former YSU football player. My girlfriend mentioned this to Jim Tressel and even though he didn't know my dad personally, he sent my family a beautiful bereavement card the following week with a hand written letter. I think this shows that Tressel has character and is a wonderful person.

@mkope1 Actually I don't have any children but thanks for showing true class just like all Miami fans do - and I think it's really funny that you are still upset about a title game from 10 YEARS AGO!!!! Miami is a joke, OSU doesn’t even consider it a real game when we play you guys - it's like playing Ohio University or something.... I didn't even watch the game last year

OSU players sold their own items for tatoo's. Miami players commit multiple felonies for years earning the nickname "convicts". There is no justice for a coach with Old shcool bloodlines that tried to help some players by covering up trivial infractions.

Jim Tressel is a good and honorable man who made some mistakes. Who of us has not made mistakes? This coach has given Ohio State class! He has been a mentor to these kids (they are kids) and has tought them to win and lose with class. OSU will be greatly hurt by the loss of Tressel. Lets keep this in perspective. These kids are thrown into a situation that at times is difficult to handle. What kid doesn't want something for nothing. They are thrown into fame and all of the pitfalls that follow. Jim did what any parent would do..he tried to protect those kids. Those of you who feel it necessary to write horrible things here show that you are not only uneducated but are also both sore losers and sore winners with little class.
Lets stop for a second and try to imagine what Jim and his family are going through right now. Have a little compassion.

Coach Tressel's resignation is a sad day for the Buckeye Nation. Thank you coach Tressel we love you! You will be painfully missed...words cannot begin to express our sadness at your departure. True S***BAGS in this entire situation are Terrell Pryor, Davier Posey, and Gene Smith, there's no way that this all went down without Gene Smith (AD) being aware of it. Coach Tressel may have hidden the s***bags (TP) 2nd level infraction,granted, he should have said something, and I think he did. I feel that he did tell Smith and is now the sacraficial lamb in this entire fiasco. OSU will only be stronger in spite of this O H I O!!!!!!!!!!

@Mary Ann....

I HOPE you are being ironic with that comment. If not, I guess you don't really truly know anything about Woody Hayes... The guy who punched a player in the face and so forth. I heart Hayes and am a HUGE Buckeye fan, but if anything Hayes would be standing right by Tressel, telling him he did a good thing here.

@Kooky

LOLOLOL...You do realize OSU beat That Team Up North for several years now, even with all these so called cover ups. That actually just goes to show what an awful team M is. And, PAH-LEASE don't talk to me about corrupt coaches and *******s. Because your former coach was just as bad if not worse. Here's my prediction...even with this scandal and mess we'll still whoop your asses this year.

OK sports fans... Ive got to get on my soapbox... Im no Ohio State fan for sure, but when are people going to pull their heads out of their ass and call out the NCAA on their hypocritical rules and regulations when it comes to unnecessary scandals and hundreds of scholarships that keep getting taken away just because a college student sells "their own" property for cash, accepts a free dinner or gets help on rent or car payments? But its ok for the NCAA to cash in millions...actually BILLIONS (in the past decade) from sucking every avenue dry in product endorsements, tv contracts and marketing initiatives??

Plain and simple Tressel was pushed out by the media and the NCAA. None of this needed to happen. Naturally your going to hear the comment of "hey they are getting a free ride so follow the rules". But do people think about what else comes with the joy of a free education to a reputable school? What about rent? food? gas? cost of living PERIOD.. is the NCAA thinking outside of the box? It all sounds nice upfront, but people have to think about whats behind the picture.

Imagine the average person winning a Ferrari....Its all nice... until you realize youve got to cover the insane gas expense on a 7/mph engine, the custom weekly wax job oh and the $1200 check up every 6 months... Doesnt sound good now, does it?

Knowing a number of student athletes, I can understand the reasons of the NCAA defined "rule breaking" actions that many take. Yes, there are some people that take advantage of the situation and accept free tattoos, jewelry and pimped out rides. But the average college athlete accepts these illegal donations in order to have a roof over their head, have money for gas or to just not have ramen noodles as their food of choice for the week.

On top of all this, no one has addressed the hundreds of scholarships that have been lost because of this ongoing issue.. Ohio State loses 8 scholarships, but where did they go? does it get transfered to another area or even another school? Of course not. the NCAA just benefited by saving tens of thousands of dollars by "poof" making it disappear.. No one seems to call that out....

If the NCAA has an issue with this behavior then give these kids some sort of income.. set some regulated budget that kids can live on while they are playing for these colleges. Im pretty sure out of the hundreds of millions of dollars that these schools make combined each year, there can be a percentage given to a cost of living budget that goes solely to student athletes...or any students that in someway benefits a college in a monetary manner.

The fact of the matter is greed has gotten to us all. The NCAA has failed to realize that their GREED is the worst because they have let students down by failing to do whats right. It could.. I mean will happen to your favorite school sooner than later...SPEAK UP!
