Kevorkian Did NOT Kill Himself ... But Would Have

6/3/2011 7:26 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Dr. Kevorkian did not end his life early ... but he WOULD HAVE if he had the strength to do it ... this according to Kevorkian's longtime lawyer Geoffrey Fieger.

During a news conference moments ago, Feiger explained, "I think had he been able to go home, Jack would have not allowed himself to go back to the hospital."

The cause of Kevorkian's death was not released, but he had reportedly been suffering from kidney and respiratory problems.

Feiger continued, "The circumstances were such that he was so weak he could not get out of the hospital, he was primarily sleeping most of the time."

RIP Jack.
You were ahead of your time.
FYI to those reading...'assisted suicide' happens every single day in ICU's around the world. Large doses of Morphine and Propofol are given to patients who have no hope...as requested by families. The American public is unbelievable naive about life. If nations were people, America is a hormonal 15 year old with a lot of growing up to do.

This article sounds like a bunch of crap. We need to learn how to take TMZ with a huge grain of salt r/e the truth. The tell just enough of it to keep themselves out of court.

First of all, after this guy passed, nobody really has any right to be speaking for him, let alone this lawyer but we all know attorneys love the sound of their own voice & can't resist walking by a microphone. Secondly, we shouldn't necessarily take what he says to heart.

Had Dr.K wanted to end his life he would have. I don't believe he thought that time had come. He died from an unexpected embolism, not from a prolonged terminal illness. Nature took care of him having to make that decision for himself but rest assurred, had he been needlessly suffering, he would have done for himself what he compassionately did for the 100+ he humanely assisted into the next life(or 'wherever').

HATES SO CALLED CELEBS

HEY, does anyone know if assisted death is NOW legal in any state of the U.S.?

If not it should be. Nobody should have to suffer!

I feel this man was a kind and compassionate soul. He not only talked the talk, but went to jail for the rights of others. Highly respect and admire this man. RIP Jack.

I think what he did for people was great. If I was dying from a long terrible disease I would want to be put out of my misery, dogs get that much. It should be the peoples choice. Rest in peace!

In the end he wanted to die a natural death. Just because he wanted to help people die with dignity doesn't mean he was ready to leave himself.
Also people need to kkep in mind he was in the news 10 years ago so some of the younger people here may never have heard of him.

To eyecandy & Father Frank(and the other santimoniuos judges here)...

I don't claim to be a Biblical scholar, but please tell me which verse in the Bible prohibits suicide. Please don't cite "Thou Shalt Not Kill" because that is a mistransliteration. The original Mosaic text says "Thou shalt Not COMMIT MURDER".
Meaning thou shalt not take another persons life through a deliberate act of malice. It does NOT include taking one's own life.
It could be argued that the Romans helped Christ commit suicide, since He knew that He was going to be killed and did nothing to stop it.
Remember that God's chosen people, the Jews, committed mass suicide at Masada, rather than be captured by the Romans. Quite a few did so to avoid the Nazis.
Please clarify what "sin" that the good Doctor committed. Be factual and not emotional.

LonnieB - you hit the nail right on the head. Dr. K was ahead of his time, there is no doubt about that!

As for the people who've commented about "who is he to play God" Dr. Kervorkian said it best himself when he said doctors play God everyday. Trying to save someone should be considered interfering with God just the same as helping someone terminally ill let go and move on. Rest in peace..
