Roger Ebert BLASTS Ryan Dunn for Drunk Driving

6/20/2011 11:43 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Ryan Dunn hasn't even been dead for a day yet -- and film critic Roger Ebert is already ripping the late "Jackass" star for boozing before getting behind the wheel  ... tweeting, "Friends don't let jackasses drink and drive."

Ryan Dunn Drunk
TMZ broke the story ... Dunn's drinking buddy claims Ryan had at least 3 beers and 3 shots before hitting the road in his Porsche.

Obviously, Ebert has a point -- but we gotta ask ...

If he had been alone in the car, then this would be too soon. Instead, he had a passenger and was out drinking with friends before the crash. You don't have to be legally drunk to have alcohol affect your ability to drive. Even a single drink has been shown to decrease your reaction time. It's sad that he took someone out with him when he made the very jackass-ish decision to drink and then drive.

Ebert's right. Enabler's let enabler's drink and drive. True friendship is a beautiful caring thing.Where people look out for what's best for one another.

Too soon? Absolutely not!! Its too late! If in fact he was drunk at the time of the accident, he should burn in hell. He took an innocent life and destroyed a nice car and public property. Hope he had good insurance, because his family is gonna get sued big by the other persons family. We all know that drinking and driving is bad, yet people continue to do it. Maybe we need to bring back prohibition in the US to keep idiots from hurting themselves and others.

Wow..At least have some f***en respect. The man just passed for gods sake!

Curious Curious

Is Ebert ripping Ryan or is he ripping the folks that let Ryan drive after drinking? Seems to me he's ripping the friends of the Jackass star for letting him drive after drinking. Open to interpretation?

That may be the case, But come on the poor guy has not even been dead a day, and the fact that we don't even know his blood level yet, what a ass have a heart

He is right!! And it's not too soon....more people need to hear this before they end up dead or killing an innocent person!!!! There is no excuse, ever for this!!!!!

Ebert is being his usually witty self - his comment makes him sound like a jackass - that's the point - it's an homage to Ryan Dunn. Get it?

What a heartless jackass, Ebert! This young man has a Mother and a Father who are suffering the greatest loss a person can deal with. And you just have to stick your rude nose in and cause more pain. People like you should be banned by the media for your heartless, inconsiderate comments. May you never have to feel this type of pain, and God forgive you for your comments.

People say "friends don't let friends drink and drive" all the time. The only reason why he used the word "Jackass" is because this is the guy from the Jackass show. I don't think her was calling Dunn a "jackass" per-sey, although he should have known better becaues even buzzed driving is drunk driving. Maybe Ebert was trying to remind us all of the lesson to not drink and drive.

It's never to soon to stop a possible accident due to alcohol. You can bet his parents wish he had only listened to those that have said, "don't drink & drive". Hopefully his death, will stop at least one person from making the same mistake.

My Two Cents

I don't know much about Dunn other than the fact that he was famous for putting something up his butt so if Ebert doesn't want GLAAD to go after him he should apologize quick.

Listen, FK Ryan Dunn and FK all his supporters. He was a loser butt hole who could have killed a lot of people. Ebert is 100% right. Ryan Dunn is in NO way a victim. To use this death to possibly save others is smart and justified. Drunk drivers can all go to hell!

As far as I am concerned someone who drives at over 100mph on a road is as reckless as someone who drives drunk.
----------------

The point is probably that a drunk is more likely to drive at 100 mph than a sober person. I agree, however, that there are certain individuals who drive too fast even when sober.

I'm sorry the guy died, but it's never too soon to warn people about the dangers of drinking and driving. I'd venture to say that his family and friends wish someone had warned him before he got in the car.

I don't know what is true or not about this story, but drinking and driving DO NOT mix. There is some merit to the argument about the timing. But would the message really be less if more time passed? If Ryan was drinking and then drove it doesn't change anything whether its said today or two weeks from now.

WOW....lots of 'show some respect'. Really? How about all the instances that we hear about drinking and driving and here he is seen drinking 3 beers and 3 shots (6 drinks) in a 3.5 hour period and gets behind the wheel and speeds and kills someone. Respect? How about a little respect for the others on the road who choose not to drink and drive? How about a little respect for the other person in the car and their family? Drinking and driving kills....as is the case here. Sad...but before we show respect to someone...shouldn't they too show respect to themselves and the other passengers? He didn't...why should I. Live by the sword die by the sword. Just sayin.

What about the bar that served him that many drinks and continue to let him leave? They truly are the ones ultimately responsible for serving him that many and watching him leave to drive. Their liquor license should be pulled and they should be sued by both families. RIP RYAN DUNN!! You provided laughter for a lot of people while you were here! May God have his arms wrap around your family and friends with comfort and love!
