Famous L.A. Deli

Cherry Pie Is On Sale

in Jani Lane's Honor

Canter's Deli
-- one of the most famous restaurants in all of Los Angeles -- is honoring Jani Lane the best way they know how this weekend ... by having a sale on cherry pie.

The delicatessen, which has been open since 1931, is just as well known for their baked goods as they are for their corned beef sandwiches. So on Saturday and Sunday, they are selling slices of cherry pie for just $1.00 each.

We've been told it tastes so good, it'll make a grown man cry.

I dont think Jani even wrote Cherry Pie just like I think Kurt Cobain did not write "the music" for Smells like Teen Spirit. They are songs some dipstick engineer wrote for there corporate masters because they run the Billboard charts as well, and thats "Whats Up"!.

Anyone who's actually familiar with the waitresses at Canter's knows that all those "Cherry Pies" were eaten during the Eisenhower administration.

This is pathetic.

I don't even like the guy or his work but this is hugely insulting to his family and friends.

RIP Jani.

He said in MANY interviews over the years that he hated that song. They didn't even want to include it on the album, but were pushed into it by the label. I can see the novelty here, but it's not doing him any favors. How about selling the pie, and all the proceeds going to a rehab center or a charity...this is simply a way for someone to make money off of a celebrity death. It really is pretty disgusting.

I, like many other kids of the 80's, like Warrant. His death is a tragedy. But it this also exposes a major flaw in what is wrong in todays soceity. We honor those who die if drug and alcohol overdoses. There is something wrong with that.

Sounds more like they're using his death as a way to make a little extra money. Considering how they can make an entire cherry pie for under $1, they're making at least $5 off of every pie. By mentioning him, you know they're selling way more than they had been. Kind of in really bad taste and very tacky.

He absolutely hated that f*cking song. Way to kick the guy one last time before his official cause if death is even determined.

Pardon my cynicism, but why honor a man who so clearly threw his life life away when there are people out there with cancer and other terminal diseases fighting for theirs. Jani Lane was given more opportunities than most and he flushed it down the toilet. Where is the honor in that?

If u want to honor him, then why not give the money from selling the pies to treatment for alcoholism.

That looks like a nice cherry pie. If that's the size of 1 slice, it's a good size too. If it tastes as good as it looks, it must be great. $1 a slice is hardly a rip-off price. Of course, the restaurant is doing this promotion to get free publicity off of this tragic death which probably was at least partly the result of a drug + alcohol overdose.
That doesn't make it a bad promotion. What's the regular price for a slice there? $4? Maybe they even liked 1 or more of his songs? It's not like the restaurant is glorifying the consumption of alcohol or illegal drugs, so give them a break. You don't want cheap, delicious cherry pie? Don't go there.

Let's see you open and run a restaurant selling cherry pies for $1 each. You'd have to buy the cherries, pastry flour, sugar, vanilla extract, butter and other ingredients, cook the pies in the oven using electricity you have to pay for, pay for the labor cost of the worker making the pies, pay the rest of the overhead of the restaurant including the cashier's, the manager's and the waiter's salary and the rent for the place. And you think you could make a profit selling whole cherry pies for $1 each? You're a moron. You couldn't even buy the ingredients for a whole cherry pie for $1.

What's wrong with the restaurant's promotion? They're not badmouthing Jani Lane, his music or his band. They're respecting the dead. They're not condoning illegal drug use or drinking alcohol to excess. They're giving their customers a nice deal on some supposedly delicious cherry pie slices and remembering a song many people like. That's nice and smart. It's not part of a plan by Canter's to take over the world by selling cherry pie slices $1 at a time.

WHO CARES. I would, however, like to take that gorgeous woman out for, oh, a cup of coffee. :) Wowza, she's cute. And if you're reading this, oh gorgeous one, post your schedule here, I'll stop by Canters and sweep you off your feet.
