Sugarland Sued

You Could Have PREVENTED

Deadly Concert Disaster

11/23/2011 10:58 AM PST BY TMZ STAFF

Sugarland sued
The country duo Sugarland is being sued by dozens of people who claim they were injured in a devastating stage collapse at a concert in Indiana earlier this year ... all because the band allegedly failed to cancel the show when they KNEW the weather was getting bad.

More than 40 people -- including the estates of people who died in the accident -- filed the suit against the band in Indiana ... claiming the members of Sugarland had the authority to cancel the show because of bad weather.

According to the docs, Sugarland "failed" to call it off ... putting the fans in grave danger.

Moments before the performance on August 13, powerful winds blew in and knocked over the stage -- killing 7 people and injuring more than 45.

Sugarland isn't the only defendant in the lawsuit -- the alleged victims are also demanding unspecified damages from concert promoter Live Nation, ESG Security and the stagehands’ union.

And if they had cancelled the show, they'd have been sued for that! It is a litigious society. It's unfortunate for Sugarland to be included in what is no doubt a long line of defendants in lawsuits arising for that tragedy. Bad lawyers ruin the reputations of the good ones.

-claiming the members of Sugarland had the authority to cancel the show because of bad weather-

Last time I checked I think the concert goers had the authority not to go.

Wait a minute... so the fans are suing because Sugarland knew the storm was bad? Why doesn't Sugarland sue THEM for coming to the show when THEY TOO knew the weather was bad! This country is so sue happy! Stop the madness!

This is their attorneys idea, plain and simple.. Sugarland was an act, and not the organizer of the event, who MAYBE could be seen as culpable depending on the cir****tances. Second, people watch things from stands all the time in bad weather.. the weather is not to blame, the stands themselves, and the people responsible for them are MAYBE the ones to blame... I feel bad they lost loved ones but its time to talk a little sense into your attorneys..

Um,yeah, the people also had the authority to leave if the wanted. I am pretty sure that we all have access to the same weather forecasts.

How can they get sued for them ppl getting killed and hurt, when those ppl didn't have to come to the show if they knew the weather was going to be bad.Why was they so close to the stage any ways?Sugarland had nothing to do with the weather.Ppl just find anyway they can to get money from someone.Get a life and stop trying to screw up someone elses.

So people are going to sue because they were too stupid to come in out of the rain.

Does anyone every take responsiblity for their own actions? If their reasoning is Sugarland should have known about the bad weather, it goes both ways, the fans should have known the same thing. Haven't they ever heard of free will? The people who are suing are disgusting, as are their lawyers. The lawyers will end up the only winners in this mess

Those decisions are usually made by the promoter not the band.
