Christiane Amanpour

Gets Heave-Ho at ABC

Replaced by Stephanopoulos

12/13/2011 3:45 PM PST BY TMZ STAFF

Christiane Amanpour has gotten the boot from ABC, TMZ has learned.  She will be replaced as the host of the Sunday political show, "This Week," by George Stephanopoulos.

A well-placed source tells TMZ Christiane is going back to CNN as an international correspondent.

George will be doing double duty on "This Week" as well as "Good Morning America."

Here's what's interesting.  TMZ posted a story in September, saying there was talk at ABC about replacing George on GMA with the newsreader, Josh Elliot.  We said back then that the plan was for George to go back to "This Week" and that Josh would get the GMA anchor seat within a year.

Stay tuned ...

Both are credible. This is a lateral move, no real change.

Someone commented on Christine's "British" accent. It is a combination of a Middle East accent and British. I've heard people from Iran and from Iraq who have spent years living in the U.K. sound similar, even those one spoke Farsi and the other Arabic.

Those posters commenting on George being Clinton's standby, I seem to recall he wasn't always all that loyal to Clinton. Also, you guys need to be more informed about who owns ABC and its ties and loyalties to the Bush family. I believe it is the only station that refused to air Michael Moore's movie 9/11 b/c the movie was critical of George W. Bush. I read that Jeb Bush was in fact quite fond of Disney when he was Florida's governor, and protected some of Disney's business privileges b/c it was such a great source of revenue for Florida. From what I hear, Disney is not such a "liberal" employer, and I think it still owns ABC.

She is a good international correspondent, but perhaps is too serious a person to realize that one must make extra effort to "glam up" a bit when hosting one's own show. Not so necessary when broadcasting from a war zone, for instance, but a good hair and make-up person is essential in a studio setting. That being said, I do think she's a knowledgeable and credible reporter.

Did Amanpour really go to college with JFK Jr? Her face is so wrinkled and saggy she looks old enough to have gone to college with his mother Jackie O instead?

Cristiane was so far to the LEFT and hating on the USA that it took this long before the dolts at ABC figured she was WRONG? Get her arab a** back in the desert where she does her best work. Good riddance!

Amanpour is a actual reporter, a journalist for many years. All over the world.

She couldn't care less if she isn't pretty for the cameras.

Stephanopoulos is TV., safe and sound reading what is written for him. He's not a reporter, never was.
