Joe Paterno

In Serious Condition

1/21/2012 3:33 PM PST BY TMZ STAFF

Joe Paterno
Joe Paterno, the legendary former coach at Penn State University, has suffered health complications and is in serious condition ... this according to a rep for the Paterno family.

The spokesperson released a statement, saying in part, "Over the last few days Joe Paterno has experienced further health complications. His doctors have now characterized his status as serious."

His son Jay tweeted, "I appreciate the support & prayers. Joe is continuing to fight."

Another son, Scott, responded to a report that JoePa had passed, tweeting, "Dad is alive but in serious condition. We continue to ask for your prayers and privacy during this time."

Onward State, a student-run newspaper on campus, reported Saturday he had been taken off his respirator. The Citizens Voice, a newspaper in nearby Wilkes-Barre, PA, reported Paterno's wife Sue summoned close friends and longtime staff members to State College hospital.

Paterno was the coach at Penn State for 46 years, until he was famously fired by the school last November following the sexual abuse allegations against his former assistant coach, Jerry Sandusky.

The whole Paterno/Sandusky scanal is proof that football is an opiate for small town hicks who have nothing else to look forward to. When people can overlook the fact that this guy was huge pedophile enabler and talk about what a "great guy" he was because he could coach a bunch of PED-pumped kids running around a field with a ball. Get a grip on what's important in life people!

Why would Paterno's lawyer say "Rumors of his death are not accurate" instead of, "He's alive."

Because Paterno is busy re-tooling his role and possibly speaking with authorities until he speaks to the Final authority.

Then he'll die...and it will be announced after the "i's" are dotted and the "t's" are crossed...and the relatives are sneaked out of the hospital.

That's why.

You know its really freaking sad that alot of people can make fun over someone passing.. This man as done wonders in college football. With the whole Sandusky thing. He did what he thought he was supposed to do and that was go to his superiors he cause he never had to deal with it before.. The School is what dropped the ball and so did Mike Q cause he said he witnessed it so instead of calling the police he called his daddy.. That man is the one to blame not Joe Pa..
