Dodgers Star James Loney

Off the Hook in Crazy DUI Case

2/1/2012 11:50 AM PST BY TMZ STAFF

0201_james_loney_ex
L.A. Dodgers 1st baseman James Loney has dodged a MAJOR bullet ... because prosecutors have rejected the DUI case against him ... even though he allegedly acted like a complete maniac on the night he crashed his Maserati.

TMZ broke the story ... Loney was popped in L.A. back in November after colliding with a Toyota around 6 PM and then careening into 2 other vehicles.

According to the police report, the officer on the scene claims Loney's behavior was incredibly bizarre ... noting the athlete "exhibited eyelid tremors and his shirt was soiled and moist from perspiration, from his armpits down to his waistline."

Loney also allegedly refused to take a breathalyzer ... and spit the mouthpiece back at the cops. He was arrested on suspicion of DUI and cops took a blood sample to test for drugs and alcohol.

But the toxicology report came back NEGATIVE ... and now, the L.A. City Attorney's Office has decided NOT to pursue the case "due to insufficient evidence to proceed."

Case closed.

I hope he went to a doctor because those symptoms sound like they may have a more serious underlining cause.

IF YOU KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THE LAW YOU WOULD KNOW THAT IN A DUI CASE IF THERE IS NO EVIDENCE, AND YOU GO TO TRIAL YOU HAVE NOTHING BUT THEIR WORD AGAINST YOURS. ALL THE DEFENSE WOULD HAVE TO DO IS COME UP WITH A MEDICAL CONDITION OR SOME OTHER CIR***STANCE TO CAST A SHADOW OF A DOUBT. THIS CASE WOULD HAVE LOST IN COURT AND THAT IS THE ONLY REASON THE D.A DROPPED IT. HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH WHO IT WAS.

Good for Loney. It's clear he wasn't under the influence of any drugs or alcohol. Toxicology reports don't lie. The guy was just having a bad night and felt threatened. Prosecutors wouldn't be able to move forward without sufficient evidence. Sure, Loney hired a high priced attorney... wouldn't you? He would've torn them up if they tried to indict him.

"Incredibly bizarre" behavior could simply be someone's opinion, not fact. The cops wanted a high-profile arrest, so they got one.

The blood sample for alcohol was negative. I'm gonna say hypoglycemia. It would/could cause the all of the symptoms mentioned. Irritability, drunken like behavior, aggression. Happens rather frequently where someone is reported as "drunk" and ends up in jail. No alc or drugs in the system. Turns out they're hypoglycemic.

Umm...do be driving under the influence you have to be...UNDER THE INFLUENCE. If his blood sample said he wasn't under the influence of alcohol or drugs then clearly he shouldn't be charged with driving UNDER THE INFLUENCE. case closed, idiots.

I think I would be charged with assulting a police officer if I spit a mouthpiece at a cop.

In unrelated news, there are unconfirmed reports that the L.A. City Attorney's office received an anonymous gift of a year's lease on a luxury suite at Dodger's stadium before the decision on Loney was announced.

Celebrity justice again. They can kill, rape and drive drunk.
The L.A. City Attorney's Office only protects the rich & famous. The FBI needs to investigate.

I think I found the answer here http://www.hyperhidrosis-usa.com/ets.html and it's called hyperhidrosis. It can cause sweat glands to overreact, amongst other things. Some other sports guy was interviewed at a seated table and his shirt became soaked by the time the interview was done. It made the news because it was so bizarre. A YouTube video shows it. I can't recal him name though. Sorry. Nerves are related to this hyperhidrosis thing.
