I'm RETIRING from Acting

... I Have Parkinson's

British acting legend Bob Hoskins -- who played P.I. Eddie Valiant in "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?" and Smee in "Hook" -- just announced ... he's retiring from acting after being diagnosed with Parkinson's disease.

The 69-year-old actor issued a statement earlier today, claiming he was diagnosed last fall. Hoskins also thanked his fans for their support, saying he had a "wonderful career."

No kidding -- his career spanned roughly 80 movies ... and his work in the British films "The Long Good Friday" and "Mona Lisa" earned him a Cannes Award, a Golden Globe for Best Actor, several BAFTA Awards, and an Academy Award nomination.

Then again ... Hoskins also starred in the 1993 live action "Super Mario Bros."

Nobody's perfect.

what a shame, i've always adored him as an actor and enjoyed watching him. i wish him well, hopefully they will find a cure sooner rather than later for him and MJF.

Personally I prefer the porn version of Mario Brothers better. 'sqweegee' played the part of 'Luigi', and the gangbang ending with the princess was sublime.

This is awful. I loved him in "The Long Good Friday" and adored him in "Mona Lisa," but I'd watch him in anything. That face makes me smile.

Good luck and all the best that's possible.

My wife was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease at age 34 in 1983. She did not retire until 2005 after she was forced out. It is not great news but this is a treatable illness. My wife still leads a fairly normal life
Thank you Rush Presbyterian in Chicago and too many doctors to mention.,

My wife was diagnosed with Parkinson's in 1983 at age 34. She did not retire until 2005. This is a treatable while frustrating illness. Get someone that will push you and get to a good research hospital.
Thank Rush Presbyterian in Chicago and University Neurologists.

He'll do ok just like Michael Fox is doing. They have the money to get the best doctors, etc. Sometimes money can't buy health but it helps alot if you have it to at least fight the disease with everything you have.

Bob Hoskins is an excellent actor, underrated, but outstanding in his character roles, one of the few who makes you forget there's an actor playing the role.

This is devastating news. He played in Maid in Manhattan as the butler with Jennifer Lopez. Such a great movie.
