Clint Eastwood

Bumbles Through

Invisible Obama Schtick

8/31/2012 6:05 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Clint Eastwood brought down the partisan crowd at the RNC by stumbling through an 11-minute bit last night that was supposed to be painfully hysterical ... but might have been just painful.

The legendary actor/director got on stage and addressed an empty stool next to him, saying ... "I've got Mr. Obama sitting here. I just was gonna ask him a couple questions."

During the schtick 82-year-old Clint seemed confused at times as he critiqued the President's 4 years in office ... and set up punchlines like, "What do you want me to tell Romney? I can't tell him to do that. He can't do that to himself."

President Obama responded to the invisible routine this morning by tweeting a pic of the back of his chair with the message, "This seat's taken."

No doubt, landing an icon like Eastwood to warm up the crowd for Mitt Romney was a coup for the GOP -- but still, we gotta ask ...

It wouldn't matter who was speaking. If you are a conservative in Hollywood, you are blacklisted and made fun of. Clint adlibbed. Anybody else want to get up on live TV and adlib? Obama can't talk without teleprompters. When he does, he blurts out stupid stuff such as "You gotta business? You didn't build that. Somebody else made that happen." Thanks alot, Oblamer. Romney's speech was great, by the way. Romney 2012, our next president.

The if you consider "awesome" being the fact that the only people excited for this were the senior citizen tour group that was staying at my hotel last night.. Good to know you've got to senior citizen vote. Per usual not mine.

Democrats are just mad because how dare the republicans trot out a movie star when we all know that celebrities only endorse the messiah! What's pathetic about all this is the need for the Obama campaign to even respond to it. Talk about desperate...

Speaking to an empty chair is exactly right. The President has not led. He has voted present and the chair has been empty since he took office. I thought it was brillant symbolically. Mr. Eastwood is 82. Good for him and have some respect.

Stop ridiculing this man for no good reason. Anyone who knows Eastwood knows that this is his signature style. His demeanor is iconic and beloved. Stop the innuendo of senility and age. It does not apply. And how ironic it typically comes from the support of an Administration which claims to respect the elderly and protect them. A bunch of lies.

Romney said it best, Obama is not a bad man he is a bad President. He was never qualified for the job to begin with, he can't solve the unemployment problem, his stimulus package failed. Obama needs to be voted out of office and go back to being a community organizer. Maybe he can go back to Kenya

That was the best 11 minutes of television that I have seen in a long time. Mr. Eastwood is a genius. Can you imagine obama up on that stage for 11 minutes without a teleprompter? Those who wish to criticize Mr. Eastwood, please add a list of your accomplishments at the end of your post.

Client Eastwood is a Senior and acted very appropriate for someone Age 82 and did a great job; especially being up late. We should applaud him instead of putting him down just because he is a Senior. He wasn't bumbling. It takes Seniors longer to collect their thoughts. I used to have a Senior business so I know. Obama's response of the back of the chair was just plain arrogant. He will be old someday.

I thought he was funny, but then, I am a Republican. I particularly like the scene with talking to an empty chair - it was great. It appears that the liberals and Obama supporters did not like his performance. Oh well.

Those 'in the know' are aware Clint's empty chair bit is comedy used many times over the years and most remembered by Bob Newhart & the phone. Lighten up! lol
