Iraqi Death Scene

Pics of Marines Burning Bodies

Trigger U.S. Military Investigation [PHOTOS]

1/15/2014 11:00 AM PST BY TMZ STAFF

The United States military is conducting a formal investigation into American soldiers burning the dead bodies of what appear to be Iraqi insurgents.

TMZ obtained 41 pictures that we're told were shot in Fallujah in 2004.  Two pictures show a Marine appearing to pour gasoline or some other flammable on the remains of what officials believe are 2 insurgents.  Two other photos show the bodies on fire.  You then see charred remains.

Another photo shows a Marine crouched down next to a dead body and mugging for the camera.

Still another pic shows a Marine rifling through the pocket of the pants on a corpse.

We have not included all of the photos.  Many are just too gruesome.  There are well over a dozen bodies in the pics and some are covered with flies and one is being eaten by a dog.

We turned them all over to the Pentagon last week, and a Pentagon official tells us the pics have triggered a Marine Corps investigation.

We're told U.S. Central Command -- the organization in charge of military operations in the Middle East -- also reviewed the photos to determine if they had been previously brought to their attention and determined they had not.

Col. Steve Warren, Director of Press Operations for the Dept. of Defense, tells TMZ ... the pictures appear to show U.S. soldiers in violation of the Uniform Code of Military Justice ... which makes it a crime to mishandle remains.

There is no statute of limitations on the crime -- even if the soldiers are now private citizens ... they can still be prosecuted, which could land them behind bars.

Col. Warren tells TMZ,  "The actions that are depicted in these photos are not in any way representative of the honorable, professional service of the 2 1/2  million service members who went to war in Iraq and Afghanistan in the last decade."

Excuse my accidental posting before I could finish my thought: Oh wow so proud of these marines! Giving a little taste to those filthy fuks like those filthy fuks who fight for that dead filthy fuk Osama gave the green light to kill thousands of innocents on planes in the towers the pentagon my brothers and sisters over there in filthy fuk land: Afghanistan Pakistan. Hopefully they burnt them while they were still breathing and aware of pain and eye for an eye...I hope they are all rotting in hell and burning for eternity! They got off easy...should have mutilated them while the filthy fuks were still breathing! I'm okay with thinking like this and your bleeding heart liberal opinion doesn't matter to me. Some ppl have forgotten, I haven't! Next time cover your face and get in front of some damn trees or an in recognizable background!

I think its a shame this magazine is bringing this out after 10 yrs. They have no clue what war is about. It is hell and horrible things happen. It makes sick to think of them making money off a story like this. Men and women died so TMZ and others can print what ever they want. I dont understand why they are against our Marines. I dont give a damn about the Hollywood trash they put out and no love is lost on jihadist radical islamists who brought the war here in the first place. What about Bowe Bergdahl? Why dont you report on that? An American soldier held captive for 4 years. Oh, I forgot...hes a soldier and an American. Let all the islamic bastards burn in hell! Sleep well TMZ and you will.....protected by the United States Marines

Double Bubble

Thought this was a "Celebrity" News site so what's up with the real news? You think some burning terrorists is bad? Don't be so quick to be harsh on these guys.. A terrorist's body doesn't deserve whatever is in accordance with Islamic custom when he dies.. If these terrorists were unleashed in North America you would all be applauding these soldiers.

By the way, I hope that starts happening in Europe where Sharia Law is recognized and implemented.. Then in North America...hopefully it drives these sick f*cks back to their own inbred countries.. I'd love to see them all burn..

It doesn't matter if these bodies have been rotting for months, or if they were worried about spreading disease or not. Islamic custom strictly forbids cremation, and all the soldiers are aware of that. This was act of pure disrespect for these bodies and they should be be held responsible for it.

Were they suppose to take time and money to have a funeral service .. maybe enjoy taking in death smells and diseases while they eat sorry food to remain healthy enough to protect us...or burn the bodies so the animals and flies have less chance of rapidly sharing new diseases that does not have a name yet? Don't assume they cheesed for the cameras . People under stress must find a way to remain sane. I thank our soldiers for what they have to endure .

Many comments out there about what a disgrace this is. No one knows the extreme cir***stances about what is going on with these pictures. Hygiene comes to mind. Rotting corpses attract wildlife and cause diseases. Insurgents are known for planting IED's in corpses in order to kill a few more servicemen and women. I've seen it personally and have had to deal with situations like that. I am still in the military and served in Fallujah twice as well as a few other places in Iraq. There is a reason behind these pictures. Don't get the wrong impression and try to judge my fellow Marines yet. We are judged daily. There will be an investigation and the truth will come out.

Saints fan

A desperate attempt for ratings from TMZ. Until you've walked in their footsteps you have no right to judge, so shut up and go back to your pampered, worthless little lives and let the real men handle things like protecting your freedom to be a major douche.

Me again

Burning bodies is for health reasons. Dead bodies rot and create disease. Local dogs eat the rotting flesh and then go back to the village, interact with the kids and spread the disease.

Going through the pockets of the enemy: it is to search for intelligence: aka: notes on upcoming battles, names of leaders, maps, positions of the enemy. etc.
