Celebs Who Can't Commit to Quit
It looks like Eminem has found the woman of his dreams...again. The outspoken rap star has filed an application for a marriage license with the Macomb Country clerk's office in Michigan with his ex-wife -- target of the scathing song 'Kim' on 2001's Marshall Mathers LP. It's true; Eminem is getting remarried to the woman he lyrically fantasized about killing and stuffing in the trunk of a car. Instinctively, you might think the most appropriate wedding gift would be yellow tape and chalk. But more celebrities than you'd think have taken a second trip down the aisle, and some of them have even gone the distance.
Melanie Griffith and Don Johnson were married briefly in 1976, but then decided to give it another shot in 1989, a reunion which lasted until 1996 when their love, following the lead of their careers, died.
Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton went ten years on, (1964-1974), one year off, then one back on (1975-1976). On Liz's matrimonial scorecard, Burton comes in as husbands #5 and #6. A legendary femme fatale, Liz made matrimonial and personal history with Burton as she apparently stole her own husband for a change.
Darrell Hammond, of 'Saturday Night Live' fame, remarried his wife, Elizabeth, in 1990 after their three-year marriage ended in 1986. The current union is still going strong, due in large part, one might speculate, to Darrell's limitless talent for impressions. Indeed, if Mrs. Hammond harbors any fantasies involving Ted Koppel, Chris Matthews, Regis Philbin, Dr. Phil, Dick Cheney or Jesse Jackson, then she is a very lucky woman indeed.
Milton Berle famously quipped about his second marriage to showgirl Joyce Matthews, "[I had to marry her because] she reminds me so much of my first wife." Unfortunately, the second marriage only lasted two years, as it seems he continued to remind her of Milton Berle.
Ever the late great comedy pioneer Richard Pryor married, divorced and remarried two different women in the course of his seven trips down the aisle. Jennifer Lee Pryor was wife #4 and #7. Flynn Belaine was wife #5 and #6. In Pryor's defense, when you're freebasing a kilo of coke a day, it doesn't matter who your wife is as long as she knows CPR.
The list of celebrities who've remarried the same spouse goes on and on, without any detectable pattern. Some stayed married for the rest of their lives; some divorced within months. Here at TMZ we refuse to speculate on the odds that Eminem and Kim will be successful this time around. We leave that to professional online betting giants like Bodog.com, whose spokesperson tells TMZ that they are currently taking wagers on whether or not the couple will last through December 31, 2006 (the action currently runs at about 70% against). As far as the betting public goes, the Mathers have their work cut out for them.
On that note, TMZ wishes the happy couple the best, and we promise to send over a first aid kit and some monogrammed flak jackets.
