Celebs Who Claim They're Green but Guzzle Gas

Hybrid cars are all the rage in Hollywood. Celebrities drive them like they're a badge of honor. You save a few gallons of gas, you save the planet. Right? Well, not when you hop on a private jet and burn enough fuel to propel NASCAR through 2050.

Of course, the stars need to go here and there. The location shoots, the fabulous vacations, etc. But that's why God created United Airlines. G-IV's, on the other hand, were created in the image of precious celebs.

Julia Roberts

On the ground: Roberts drives a Prius, which gets (at best) 60 miles to the gallon, shaving 30 miles off a normal car's mpg.
In the air: Chicago/LA, 1,749 miles in a private jet, the route she took with Rupert Everett while shooting "My Best Friend's Wedding."
Gas guzzled: 2,100 gallons of jet fuel.
Prius Penance: Julia would have to drive 30,000 miles, or roughly once around the earth and then some to even out her consumption in the air.
So Julia says: No word yet from Julia's rep.

Jennifer Lopez

On the ground:
J-Lo tools around in her 60 miles-per-gallon Prius.
In the air: LA /New York, 2,475 miles in a private jet. Lopez was actually sued by a private jet company for allegedly skipping out on the bill, though she says it's all a misunderstanding and she was not supposed to be billed.
Gas guzzled: 2,750 gallons of jet fuel.
Prius penance:
She'd have to drive 45,000 miles, and that's a lot longer for Jenny than just going down the block. It's actually more like twice around the earth.
So Jennifer says: There was no comment from Lopez's rep.

George Clooney

On the ground: George favors a Tango, an electric car that gets a whopping 135 miles to the charge.
In the air: Los Angeles/Tokyo, 5500 miles in a private jet.
Gas guzzled:
7,000 gallons of jet fuel.
Electric shocker: Even with his super-saver Tango, he'll have to drive over 57 oceans -- Pacific Oceans to break even.
So George says: Clooney's rep, publicist Stan Rosenfield, tells TMZ, "You clearly have no understanding of certain people's need for private transport," and points out that Clooney often has "no control" over his travel schedule.

Brad Pitt gets off his private jetBrad Pitt

On the ground:
Eco-champ Brad is yet another Prius-lover, and he reportedly has several hybrids in his stable.
In the air: Los Angeles/Namibia, 9,400 miles in a private jet.
Gas guzzled:
11,000 gallons of jet fuel.
Prius penance: Brad burned enough fuel to take a Prius to the moon.
So Brad says: Pitt didn't have any comment. His rep tells TMZ that Pitt is out of the country.

Leo fueling his PriusAnd the true-blue Green Award goes to ... Leo DiCaprio.

On the ground: Leo drives a Toyota Prius
In the air: Leo flies just like us folk -- commercial, unless he positively must fly private because of scheduling.
Prius penance: None.

61. This is a silly story and it takes the focus off TMZ heavy gas use. To all the freaks who are envious and jealous fo the celebrities and love to come here to slam on them base on this ridculus story....GIVE ME A F*CKING BREAK! Everybody knows these stars are asked by the organization of pimp this out to the public in hoping the news would get out and help change our behaviour.

The stars level of Green is their choice just as it is our choice...some are 98% to 30% but it's all good and I look at it as communication only....geesh it terrible how people love to bitch. TMZ loves to bitch and I drive an big truck and will continue until green fuel is available for me...It's a safety issue for me, but I did love Pitt Green building idea, that is something that is very doable and achievable on a grand scale and can be put in place now. That's where I would like to focus my attention until clean fuel can be developed for power my TRUCK.

And give me a break about private airplane usage...If the president can waste gas in AirForceOne...then I can too. You hurt the cause when idiotic crap is used.

62. CAPS IS EASY TO WRITE IN, YOU DON'T LIKE IT, DON'T LOOK

SECOND, WHO GIVES A FLYING F......................HOW IT IS SPELLED. HE STILL SHOULD GIVE HIS OWN RICHES TO THEM THE SPOILED BIG MOUTH ACTOR. PROMOTING IS DIFFERENT THEN GIVING, TO RAISE MONEY, HOW ABOUT HE CONTRIBUTES MORE THEN ASKING US FOR HELP WHO MAKE NOT WHAT HE DOES, THEY ALL THINK IT IS SO STINKING EASY! DO YOU KNOW HIM PERSONALLY THE WAY YOU DEFEND HIM.

BY THE WAY THE CAP LOCK IS NEAR THE A IF YOUR LOOKING FOR IT!

63. So the Hollyweirdos sacrifice their precious enviroment to keep from being "oogled"? The poor celebs can't handle first class on an commercial airplane with the rest of the planet's populace...I mean little people?

Some dolt above chided some celebs for using "BENTLEY OR LAMBORGHINNI"s, yet went on to defend the envirohollyweirdos who use "PRIVATE JETS THAT ARE ULTIMATE GUZZLERS" by qualifying it with "WOUDLN'T YOU IF YOU COULD"? Hello?

Let's put this in perspective for "Mohammad"-
"BENTLEY OR LAMBORGHINN" (10-20mpg)= BAD or in other words..You shouldn't even if you can.
PRIVATE JETS THAT ARE ULTIMATE GUZZLERS (an enth of a MPG)= JUST DANDY if you have the means.

What are your brilliant thoughts on Hollyweirdo-enviroweenie's MANSIONS that require gabiliions in fuel to HEAT?

These are the same people who hug a tree but will kill an innocent baby for the sake of convenience.

Hypocrites

64. The bottom line is that these Hollyweirdos are worse than politicians (and that's a feat!). They put on the pretty (politically correct) front for the camera ... for the simple folk to see. Their envirohappy cars get in the magazines and TV so they look altruistic , yet they slip away from the cameras and hop in their private jets while thumbing their noses up to the idiots who bought little show.

How ANYONE can defend these people is beyond me.

Don't be a sheep

65. Okay, so it takes 7000 gallons of jet fuel to get from LA to Tokyo. But how much fuel does it take for a 747, or 757, or 767, or even the new airbus 380? It take jet fuel when people fly, so the next time you guys go on vacation and you decide to fly somewhere, just think about how much jet fuel is being used.

Posted at 3:57PM on Oct 19th 2006 by MrVegas

66. Sorry, Mr.Vegas but you'll have to think a little deeper than your craps table.
A 747 holds almost 600 people
A 757 holds 250
and
A 767 holds almost 300

versus one gigantic EGO (+ "handlers") in a private jet.

Which sounds more environmentally-friendly to you?

I bet "mathematician' could figure out how many gallons of fuel per passenger is being used in each scenario if he wanted to bother.

Posted at 3:22PM on Oct 19th 2006 by Jen with a CLUE

67. Okay Jen withOUT a clue.. here is an example. It take roughly 60 gallons of fuel to fly from New York to London on a 767. However, since it holds nearly 400 passengers, thats 24,000 gallons of jet fuel. So, if one person uses 7000 (alleged) gallons of fuel to fly to Tokyo - so what? Have you never wasted an ounce of gas in your life? I suppose that you think the war in Iraq has nothing to do with oil too, right?

Posted at 3:47PM on Oct 19th 2006 by MrVegas

68. Actually MrVegas, commercial aircraft are fueled by weight. There are different configurations of aircraft and depending on the cfig, pax count, cargo, bags checked, weather and many other things is to how much fuel is needed.
A 737-400 can hold more pax then a 737-700. The 400 holds more fuel but it also TAKES more fuel to get it off of the ground.
AND then it depends on which carrier has the lease on the aircraft, as to how many pax it can seat.
Southwest flys ALL 737's. Their A/C seat anywhere from 132-155. Continental has some 737's too. Their configuration is something like 14/124.
So you see, one really can't begin to try and figure the exact amout of fuel a commercial aircraft uses, with any regularity.

69. If it was a cool fad to burn gas and destroy the environment these hollywood wackos would do it. This just shows they do not really care about anything but themselves. It's like saying I recycle cans, but throw foil away.

70. TMZ isnt going around telling people what they should drive is all. These starts are advicating people to make decisions not to use so much of the environment. TMZ is not telling what you should and should not do, they are telling what what these stars are saying "do what we say do not as we do" Preach about fuel useage and then travel in private jets. If they make 10 trips on a jet, that equals more fuel than you and I would use in 10 years!

71. But Leo shouldn't be using his cell phone while pumping gas! Not a safe thing to do!!! Although I do like that he does fill up his own tank

Posted at 2:40PM on Oct 24th 2006 by k

72. If they REALLY cared about the U.S.A., they wouldn't drive jap crap. And neither would anyone else!!

73. These people are not green They are cheap. The dont want to buy alot of gas, I was in corperate aviation for 28 years. Most of these celebraties dont pay for the private jets. Its in their contracts that the studio or someone else foots the bill. (can you say J-Lo) Woody Harrelson used to buy 8 or 9 gallons at a time and would pay with a check. When asked why he said because for those small amounts the station attendant will usually put the money in the till and keep my check for a souvineer. Thus Free gas. Green my butt , I have dealt with alot of these people and the more money they have the cheaper they are....

75. HEADLINE:
TMZ writers claim to be journalists while publishing slop.

Every little bit helps.

How many people jump into their vehicles to travel a few blocks to the store or restaurant?
How many of you burn extra gas in a parking lot, driving in circles looking for a front row spot? If we just had that gas everyone wasted, we wouldn't have to buy any ourselves.

We have put more miles on our Tandem Bicycle in town, than our vehicle this year.
