Moments after reports circulated that Isaiah Washington went into therapy, "Grey's Anatomy" creator Shondra Rhimes weighed in with a statement which sounds like she's hedging her bets on her embattled star:
"I speak for all the executive producers here at 'Grey's Anatomy' when I say that Isaiah Washington's use of such a disturbing word was a shocking and dismaying event that insulted not only gays and lesbians everywhere but anyone who has ever struggled for respect in a world that is not always accepting of difference ... We applaud and encourage Isaiah's realization that he needs help and his subsequent choice to seek immediate treatment for his behavioral issues."
What Rhimes didn't mention, was whether Washington would be fired or not. TMZ spies in high places in the production of "Grey's Anatomy" say Washington's fate will be determined by ratings, not moral outrage -- namely, whether his presence helps or hurts the show.

Prejudice does not live in one color or creed. I hope his rehab is for substance abuse and not something like anger management. Maybe all these bigmouthed celebrities will move us forword to a place we won't have to discuss namecalling based on sex,race,etc. it about mutual respect.Either you respect people or you don't.
What happened to society's buzzword of "TOLERANCE"? It seems there's alot of intolerance here for Mr. Washington. What if this star would have said "I did not call T R a bigot", (since that's the word of choice being used on this forum to describe Isaiah.) Would we even be having this discussion? I doubt it. So, all of you who are labeling Isaiah Washington a bigot, have done nothing more than what he did. It seems the gay rights community wants tolerance for them, but no tolerance for bigots. Bigots are what they are. Bigots were born that way. Bigotry is in their genetic make-up. Bigots didn't choose to be bigots. Maybe they should start a civil rights action committe for the bigots of the world. Bigots Unite!
#12 - What the hell are you talking about? I think the point is that being a bigot is bad, no matter what your race or sexuality. Saying that black people "cry when supposed racial slurs are made, but they are able to go around saying what they want about people" is mean-spirited and wrong. No one sane said or thinks that. What Michael Richards said (I'm guessing that's what you're referring to) was disgusting, and so is using the word f****t. Period.
I think I'll stop reading comments on this page. You get a window into how disturbing and racially charged some people's line of thinking is on this page, but over all it's depressing.
how embarrassing it would be that words could cause so much division and controversy. equally embarassing is that when a homosexual speaks against Christianity the same outrage is not there.

Nobody likes gay people. It's always going to be okay to call them whatever you want to, even over a live mic in front of a roomful of them. Blacks made it through the barbed wire, but gays? Forget it. Washington is a moron. And so is Shondra Rhimes.
He should be fired. Had then been one of the other actors, calling Mr. Washington the "N" word they would have been fired w/ no questions asked. Ms. Rhimes is showing her own bigotry by protecting Mr. Washington. Mr Washington has still yet to really ask forgiveness. Should needs to be put in the un-employment line.
I have been a fan of Grey's since the very first show, but wont be watching until Mr. Washington his fired.

I think that this guy is an idiot. I am african american and I would have been pissed if someone would have said that N word we hate so much so why would he keep saying this word. He should have to pay a fine or something...Remember the Golden Rule rich boy....treat others how you want to be treated.

Well as a Canadian I cannot believe the things your Nation tries to get away with. In our country we call this HATE CRIMES and you get charged and go to jail for these things. I watch 'Grey's Anatomy' because I enjoy the storyline and the characters NOT because I like the actors personally nor their way of life. If all actors were fired due to their personal life behavors, an entertainment show would be a rare thing indeed. Also, it's interesting that people who use foul language here are attacking Isaiah for his language? Hmmmmm. Get a grip people!
