Ryan O'Neal Arrested -- Shot Fired

TMZ has obtained the mugshot of actor Ryan O'Neal, who was arrested Saturday morning at his Malibu home. He was booked on charges of assault with a deadly weapon and negligent discharge of a firearm after a fight with his son, Griffin. O'Neal was released after posting $50,000 bail.

Police tell TMZ that O'Neal, 65, fired at least one gunshot during the scuffle.

Cops say he was booked at the Lost Hills Sheriff's station without incident. He was released at 5:30 AM.

Sheriff's sources tell TMZ that a 22-year-old female friend of Griffin's was "inadvertently" injured at the scene and transported to a local hospital. Sources wouldn't confirm if the injury was a result of the gunshot.



Celeb mugshots: click to viewGriffin O'Neal, son of Ryan and Joanna Moore, is also no stranger to the law. The 42-year-old spent 18 days in jail for not performing the community service ordered by a judge who found him guilty of reckless boating in a 1986 accident that killed the son of film director Francis Ford Coppola.

Griffin also has a history of substance abuse. He pleaded no contest to a drunken driving charge in 1989. In 1992, he agreed to spend one year in a live-in drug rehabilitation program after pleading no contest to charges he shot at his estranged girlfriend's unoccupied car.

3. It has to be Redmond, his son wirh Farrah.... Happy Birthday to her. Griffin was smart to leave that mess. Redmond has severe addiction problems. Again Happy Birthday Farrah.

6. How sad. He has 2 sons. The older son was sent to a military academy because he was out-of-control. The younger was a heroin addict. If the son is who I think it is then I recall Ryan spent a lot of time, money and tears trying to help him. How sad that things ended up this way after Ryan's battle with cancer. Can you imagine, a young man attacking a cancer victim who had to resort to self-defense with a deadly weapon. Not worth a criminal record folks. Just let your kid go. I know of one family that just moved with no forwarding information to escape from a bad kid.

8. Untill we know the whole story lets keep our opinions to ourselfs. Whatever the situation was I dont think a firearm was neccesary.... but who knows. Father/ Son relationships can be very complicated and this one has been that way forever. I remember back in 83', when Ryan and Farrah and Griffin were on the cover of People magazine for a similar problem, and obviously almost 25 yrs later things havent progressed much. I just feel bad for Farrah, who I hear is CANCER FREE has to endure this kind of stress. God Bless you Farrah and , oh yeah, HAPPY BIRTHDAY. And lets hope Ryan has a license for that firearm.

9. Ryan O'Neal is one of the most talented men of his day, and I wish him well at this sad moment in his life. But very happy to hear that Farrah has beat her cancer.

10. You all are so wrong. Ryan O'neal has always been a very abusive father. Read Tatum's autobiography. Griffin got the worst of his moods. Ryan knocked his two front teeth out when he was a teenager. Ryan has complexes always having to compete with boxing or whatever and it always escalates into a fight. Evey get together they have. No wonder Griffin had drug problems. It took him years to conquer them. Ryan O'Neal has always had ego problems, he never made it in Hollywood since Love Story. Very abusive sick father.

11. Ryan O'Neal has a history of violence and drug abuse. His relationship with his children, including daughter Tatum has been very volatile. He has attacked not only his sons Griffin and Redmond but his ex wife Joanna as well and has had a very tempestuous relationship with Farrah. True, he did stick by her side during her recent bout with cancer but has yet to go for anger management therapy nor kick his cocaine habit. This latest incident with Griffin is just the tip of the iceberg.
