While Conan O'Brien isn't taking over "The Tonight Show" until 2009, TMZ has learned he's already searching for the perfect $20 million compound ... with no luck!

Despite a megamillion-dollar budget, sources tell us that Conan and wife Liza are having trouble finding the perfect West Coast pad in which to settle with their two children. The O'Briens have a lot in common with the Beckhams, who also can't seem to find a place to call home for a not-so small fortune.

Looks like the L.A. real estate market is one thing the late-night host isn't finding very funny! Too bad, he just missed buying Johnny's old pad!

17. Conan is funny--but a total ass always making jokes about Star Jones and Kristi Alley's weight. Jay Leno is WAYYYYY more funny and will be sorely missed when he does finally leave the Tonight Show. He's only leaving because they were going to lose Conan if he didn't sign a deal with NBC. Jay, if you're reading this....please sign with another network and continue on even against Conan. You're brilliant--plus you don't want to throw Kevin Eubanks and John Melendez out on the street--do ya?!?!

20. To be fair, the cost of buying a home in LA is retarded. A $20 million LA home would cost about $1-2 million anywhere else in the country that isn't California. I imagine he doesn't want to spend such a huge sum of money on a house that isn't awesome.

22. Most people I know cant stand the Tonight Show and think it will actually be a "step DOWN" for Conan to go to that square, humorless show.

I think Leno does but no one I know admits to watching him. Its usually Lettermen, then switch the channel to Conan.

Personally I do watch both.

29. Is this guy the best the industry has to offer us in the way of entertainment? I would rather turn my TV off than watch this guy. How did he ever get on TV anyway??? He has no talent of any kind as far as i'm concerned! In fact.., even less talent than that!
