Celebrity Justice
Paris Does Not Lack Appeal

Paris Hilton's lawyer has made it official -- Paris has filed a notice with the court, vowing to appeal her 45-day jail sentence.

The notice is a formality that lawyers are required to file before lodging the appeal. It does not give the grounds for the appeal, but Hilton's lawyers must essentially prove that the trial judge abused his discretion by imposing the sentence.

215. I'm a virgin commentor but I couldn't help putting my two cents worth in here. I was reading an article over at People.com and came across this.

The Simple Life star must report to jail by June 5, and it's also not likely that she will benefit from an early release program for non-violent offenders that has been used to ease overcrowding in Los Angeles jails.

"(That program) is not in effect for Paris Hilton because of the judge's order," says L.A. Sheriffs spokesman Steve Whitmore. "It's our understanding she is most likely going to do 45 days."

There is hope that she will indeed do the whole 45 days like she should. In my humble opinion, Kathy Hilton aka Mommie Dearest, should be greatful the judge didn't slap her with a contempt of court violation for her outburst. Kathy and Rick Hilton should be ashamed of themselves for the horrible job they did as parents. My own children are far from perfect but they DO know right from wrong, as well as accepting responsibility for their actions. Is it too late to put Paris in foster care?

As Rosie would say.... "Hmmmmmm."

217. TO: "me"

You claim that "everyone loves to pick on her because she is rich and privileged".

I beg to differ - At least THIS person finds her repulsive NOT because she was born to privilege, but because she takes that privilege for granted, shows not respect for it or her heritage, and uses it to live a life which laughs in the face of decency and morality, including obeying the law. With all her family's money, she hasn't an ounce of class and even less common sense and intelligence.

No, I don't envy her fortune.... or her.

218. In Pennsylvania the minimum jail time for what she did is 90 days. She should feel happy that with three offenses, she only got 45!!

220. my god, get over it, just because you're a hilton it doesnt mean you're above the law, karma baby, reality check!!

221. Excuse me, she is not above the law... she should serve her jailtime just like anybody else would have to do. It would be an injustice if she was pardoned. She thinks she can get away with anything b/c she's rich... she should be treated equally.

223. paris (or rather paris' team of handlers)have authored a petition for the Gov. to blow off the judges ruling...it goes on and on about her celebrity and of other celebs whos crimes are much worse than hers by comparison...she wants all of her fans to sign it,because she loves you. GAG. it also mentioned how she has meant so much to so many as an entertainer who brings excitement to the other-wise boring lives of her public. I AM GOING TO BE SICK.

224. paris' handlers have authored a petition addressed to the governor and is hoping that her fans will sign it. it compares paris' offense to that of other celebs who have only received a slap on the wrist for their crimes, that were by comparrison much worse than anything the heiress has done...it also goes on to state how influential paris has been on the ho-hum lives of her public by enlivening their other wise boring existance...GAG...i would never have believed this if someone told had of toldme, but i read this myself and as a result i am sick to my stomach.

225. This petition is ludacris. If this were any other tax paying, hard working American they would find themselves in jail doing the time. Key word is HARD WORKING. It is unfortunate that parents who raise such spoiled children are not held accountable as well when their children break laws. Mother Hilton screams and rants of how "pathetic" this ruling is. She should have thought about her contribution to her problem child who is a product of who raised her. This is a classic example of how society has arrived with the problems they face today, especially with regard to our youth. Parents need to take back the control and discipline of their children and teach them responsibility again!
This country has GOT TO STOP giving anyone preferential treatment......regardless of status, money, fame, gender. I think it is appalling how the laws continue to change to fit certain people's needs/wants. If we had tougher first time offender penalties, it would help to deter unlawful behaviors a second time around, giving the offender the "fear of God" to ever consider trying it again.
I applaud this judge. I would agree with my son who said that Judge Sauer should have all celebrity cases brought to his courtroom. At least this man wants to uphold the law regardless of who the person is. Let's hope this will set a precedent over future cases for celebrities.

If you want something done you'll find a way. If you don't want something done you'll find an excuse.
