Paris Hilton is "teetering on the brink."

Law enforcement sources have told TMZ that Hilton has been crying a lot, praying and extremely withdrawn.

Hilton is in the medical ward at Twin Towers, an L.A. County jail facility. She is in a room by herself with a glass door. For her protection, a sergeant guards the door at all times.

We're told Hilton hasn't eaten or slept since she arrived yesterday.

Sources have described her condition today as "fragile" and "despondent." One source called her "a train wreck" while another said she is "sullen and withdrawn."

We've learned her shrink, Dr. Charles Sophy, spent more than two hours with her this morning. Hilton's family can't visit today. In the medical ward, families can only visit on Sundays and Tuesdays.

We're told Hilton is receiving "appropriate medical attention." We're told she's being given psychotropic medication.

1. How is she receiving proper medical attention when she was yanked out of house arrest to send her back to the environment that is causing her the psychological problems? bizzare and absurd.

8. God, enough already. Is this whole this not making anyone sick???? Not only was she treated WORSE because of who she is, now she's being punished in a pissing contest between the judge and the sheriff. The only one with any brains is the sheriff who let her out after 3 days. People get out of jail early ALL THE TIME. What kind of real justice is being served?? The woman isn't being punished, she's being tortured at this point. I've never seen such a blatant witch hunt. Hello!!! Convicted sex offenders are sent home with no jail, just home monitoring. The world as seriously lost it over this.

9. send Ms. Parisite to AZ where she would spend at least 90 days in a tent in the desert in 100+ weatherwith Sheriff Joe, and gladly stay only 40 days in an air conditioned jail. Mental problems explains a lot but is no excuse. Paris and friends need to grow up and deal with the consequences she brought on herself. Oh, and Paris.....get a real job.

Why is this even being reported ? I am sure hundreds of thousands of prisoners have lived in prison (and nothing like Paris's) over the years feeling equally despondent and teetering on the brink.

14. Yes, if Paris Hilton has "severe mental health problems", keep her where she belongs, in the psychiatric yard, not at home in her luxury mansion. A few years ago, Paris said in a magazine: "I ate fast food for 30 days and nearly died". Is this what her medical condition is all about? She don't like the food served in jail? The jail officials should force feeding her like the psycho that she really is.

15. She hasnt eaten or slept?? How is this any different from her normal life of partying all night long?? She should have been kept in jail in the first place. Letting her be on house arrest would be like me committing a crime, being convicted and told that my punishment was to be on vacation in a mansion with people to wait on me hand and foot. Some punishment. Boo Hoo on her mental state. Do you think anyone that is in jail doesnt have problems with their mental state when they are there? Why is she any different.
