Paris Hilton is "teetering on the brink."

Law enforcement sources have told TMZ that Hilton has been crying a lot, praying and extremely withdrawn.

Hilton is in the medical ward at Twin Towers, an L.A. County jail facility. She is in a room by herself with a glass door. For her protection, a sergeant guards the door at all times.

We're told Hilton hasn't eaten or slept since she arrived yesterday.

Sources have described her condition today as "fragile" and "despondent." One source called her "a train wreck" while another said she is "sullen and withdrawn."

We've learned her shrink, Dr. Charles Sophy, spent more than two hours with her this morning. Hilton's family can't visit today. In the medical ward, families can only visit on Sundays and Tuesdays.

We're told Hilton is receiving "appropriate medical attention." We're told she's being given psychotropic medication.

91. Well of course the spoiled brat is despondent! Who isn't when they go to jail? I am sure she is used to not eating, as anorexia or bulimia is very much a part of the Hollywood life. Too damn bad! She deserves everything she gets. She had a chance, blew it, and now needs to DO THE TIME!! She was okay enough the day she was let out to have a mobile spay-tan unit come to her house and give ger a tan. What a sorry excuse of flesh! I applaud the judge for not giving in to her tantrums and money. Harvey Levin needs to quit sympathizing with her. He talked about her last night on Larry King like she was 13. She acts 13, but she is almost 27! She ought to be thinking about what she can do for others, not herself. Look at Angelina Jolie? She wasn't acting like this at 26. I bet as long as they give her plenty of srugs that no other inmate would get, by the way, she'll make it through fine. I spent 6 months in jail for violating my probation on the same damn charge. I was sad, despondent, didn't eat, had suicidal thoughts, was blonde and pretty. I just wasn't rich and famous! No one gave me meds and no one cared if I cried. I am still alive all these years later. I didn't do it again, and I learned my lesson. I am still regretful that I drove drunk, not realizing how bad it was at the time. She should have to sit there 6 months like the rest of the jails in America except LA County. Judge, you issued an order, now please do the right thing and make it stick. Young Hollywood and all those that are watching her think it is a joke and that when they go out and play the party scene, it is a laughing matter. Throw the rest of her lousy friends in there too when it is their time to go before you. Send her to Maricopa County if there isn't room. Don't back down from her family's wealth and power, or you'll look like you've been bribed too, like the sheriff. You should have held the sheriff in contempt. There are people dying of diseases in jail and they do not get to go home and get a spray tan with cupcakes served on a platter. She is a pathetic parasite on the world.

95. How many inmates can afford a psychiatrist, let alone have their psychiatrist make a two hour house visit in jail? She probably thinks that if she can throw a big enough crying fit, they will release her. Suck it up, Paris, jail's a bitch.

97. As for no one being angry about ugly Michelle Rodriguez being released early--WRONG. That infuriated me. But then, think about it. She and uglier Cynthia Watros basically destoyed their own careers. Both were going to the top fast and now are nearly unemployed.

105. I'm glad she's in jail and I'm TOTALLY DELIGHTED that her sycophantic following is tied up in knots over it.

She's repeatedly thumbed her nose at the justice system and considered it an irrelevant annoyance to her. The experience she is now going through might well save her life in the future. Be it from drinking and driving or flouting some other law.

If this experience brings a new found respect of the law and importance of not violating it, knowing now what that violation brings, she will be MUCH better for it.

For God's sake people, it's a few weeks that could actually better her for the REST OF HER LIFE if it keeps her from doing foolish things that could get her killed.
