Should TMZ Be Held In Contempt?

OJ SimpsonThe legal trustee who is in control of the OJ Simpson manuscript "If I Did It" is upset at TMZ for publishing a link to the manuscript and running a story with several excerpts. The trustee is asking a judge to hold TMZ in contempt of court.

Last week, a judge gave the trustee authority to sell the manuscript and give the proceeds to the Goldman family. Fred Goldman, who was initially outraged that Simpson would try and peddle a book about how he might have committed the killings, had a change of heart and wanted the script sold and the proceeds directed his way.

In the court papers filed today, the lawyer for the trustee wrote, "...during the time that the Manuscript was published on the TMZ Website, literally tens, if not hundreds of thousands of people, downloaded the Manuscript, and now hold [the] property on their hard drives, property that is now freely transferable around the globe at the click of a mouse."

The legal papers claim "TMZ blatantly and intentionally violated the automatic stay." Last week, the judge had ordered the parties involved in the case or their agents not to disseminate the manuscript.

The trustee's lawyer is asking the judge to order TMZ to reveal how it obtained the manuscript. The lawyer also wants the judge to require TMZ "to show cause why it should not be held in contempt of this Court...."

258. I don't know the legalities involved in this case - however I wish this had not been taken away from Mr. Goldman. It would have helped to ease some of the pain he is still feeling.

259. Yes, TMZ should answer these questions - I wish this hadn't been taken away from Mr. Goldman.

260. TMZ knows that the public has a neverending thirst for gossip and sensational stories which translates to huge money. The public has such a monstruous need to feed, that even when the average joe knows that a story is scummy, he cannot avert his eyes and will read it anyway. The responsibility lies with the publishers. Two people were brutally murdered and this manuscrip was extremely sensitive to the parties involved. I think it's a reflection of the money hungry world we live in that TMZ chose to publish this and take away what, if anything was left from the two victim's families. I think TMZ is very much in contempt of court.

261. I have yet to understand why the Goldman family should be allowed any one item or any money from the death of their son from Nicoles estate. What about the two children of O.J.? I read or hear about only what some judge has given the Goldmens. Doesn't O.J.'s older children also have the rights to their dads past assets? I thought when you are proven innocent in a court of law, that is what you are. This last bout of lawsuits with the Goldmans has made me realize the sad reality , they want only the money. They can word it any way they want. The bottom line is MONEY....... that's a sham... I'm sorry ..I meant a shame.

262. Goldman attorney Paul Battista told MSNBC's to report "how distraught the Goldmans are to hear that this hit the Internet for free." FREE is the operative word. These people just want to exploit their son's death and get paid! A**holes!

263. OJ is my hero! The Goldman's are being typical. Of course they want to profit from the death of their son. Isn't it a part of their religion?

264. I was surprised to see part of the manuscript yesterday & wondered if Goldman would get ticked off. I want the Goldman's family makes some money so to p*ss off OJ.

265. If you want to see the manuscript...goto www.digg.com and search for it. I'm not posting the exact link but I googled it and the only place that seems to have is Digg.

266. Do you really believe the Goldman's motivation is profit? Hell NO...they just want to make sure they jam up Ojs cash flow where ever and when ever they can.

Trudee your comments are dim, at best....

267. I do not think TMZ is to blame at all they were given what they printed its not like they stoled it. I used to feel for the goldman family but now all's they want is,"MONEY" I understand they want OJ to pay but he will not pay this way, they hurt him when they stopped the book from being sold now all's their doing is giving him more publicity and yes he will do interviews after the book is out so he will be in the spot light all over again. No amount of money can bring Ron back they need to let him rest in peace. Good for you TMZ keep up what you do and if people dont like it then dont come to the sight. I wish I knew part of the book was here becasuse I am one who would have read part of it.

268. While I admit what TMZ did was wrong I also hope people look at what they are is like journalism. Many of those that give them info are under the belief system that they won't rat them out, ie their sources. Now will be the big step for them if they are told they must rat out their sources. Will they tell or will they keep it a secret?

269. Stop picking on OJ. He was founf NOT GUILTY. And by the way he is the safest driver in my Neighborhood: He does not exceed the speed limit and he actually stops at the stop sign in front of my house.

270. When I heard that TMZ is publishing the entire book on the internet, I couldn't believe it. Shame on you Harvey Levin!!!!! You know better, you are a lawyer, I thought you went into the law because of your personnal sense of justice, but now you have become a "Sensational Ho", like all the other rags in Hollywood! You should be paying the judgment in lieu of OJ. I hope the judge throws the book at you. You and the murderer now have become one in the same.
