Osmond Army Invades Chicago

11/10/2007 10:00 AM PST BY TMZ STAFF

Various Osmonds assembled at a Chicago airport, where the nearly 100 of them took up most of a terminal. Security!

The grieving group is gathering for the funeral of Osmond family patriarch, George, who passed away Tuesday at the age of 90. Services were held Friday in Utah.

It's totally appropriate for the Osmonds to go on Oprah -- but why couldn't Oprah have rescheduled her show for a week later in order to let them bury their father? Or better yet, why couldn't Oprah have gone out to SLC and taped her program there, rather than make them schlepp halfway across the country and disrupt their lives? She could have filled the Mormon Tabernacle with an audience like she's never had before. No, the Osmonds had to accommodate her. That's who deserves any criticism in this situation.

As for people not realizing they're LDS -- honey, this is the LDS equivalent of the Kennedys. Only you don't hear about many scandals involving Osmonds, do you?

Ok for all these nuckleheads asking why didn't Oprah do this or do that...and why didn't the Osmonds cancel... FIRST OF ALL, this show was planned, before their father's death. I saw the previews of this show BEFORE their father died. In fact, their father was supposed to be on Oprah with them. They got together and discussed whether they should appear on Oprah or not. They all decided to. Oprah didn't think the show was going to happen until the Osmonds contacted her.

They were also happy because they wanted this show to air on the same day their dad was buried.

I just cannot understand some of the STUPID comments going on here. UNBELIEVABLE!

Oh, and another thing, I've lost count of how many times I've seen the other DWTS contestants on other shows. So don't criticize Oprah for having Marie on. They didn't even talk about the DWTS that much anyway. CHILL OUT FOLKS! Geez.

Oh, and Brenda...to answer your question about why didn't Oprah fly out to Utah to film the show there? Answer below. And regarding your statement, "they had to accomodate her....," that was a low blow.

In answer to your first question, maybe because Entertainment Tonight was with them at the funeral!! Logistically, it would have have been a nightmare for a major show to come to a funeral with a whole bunch of cameras! THINK..... Oprah was kind enough to fly everyone over to Chicago and accomodate them. They seemed happy, why aren't you? YOU ARE COMPLAINING, not them.

TMZ,

What a stupid headline! You shall said OSMONDS FAMILY STOP IN CHICAGO! Get straight fact. The family were flying in Chicago,ILL for OPRAH'S SHOW. Oprah said earlier, that she made an arrangement for them to come all on one flight - 100 members to Chicago where oprah's based show is.

My two cents

It never surprises me to read some of the garbage that people spew here, but you have to take it with a grain of salt. Most read a headline and two sentences of the story and then they form an opinion immediately and then immediately start hammering out their own blog thinking they are all so informed on the subject. You have to realize that some of these people that blog here are basically idiots. For the rest of us, we all know that the show has been planned for some time, even in the beginning stages of Marie being on Dancing with the Stars and long before George Osmond passed away.
I am not sure why on god's green earth that anyone would attempt to rip apart this family. I have long admired the love and strength of the Osmond family and would give anything to have grown up in a family like that. It was nice to see that they continued to go on Oprahs show, even after their fathers passing as a tribute to him. I found it extremely touching. If any of you think that Marie did this as publicity for Dancing, you are clearly out of touch with reality. She is well known on the set of Dancing to be by far one of the nicest celebritys to ever be on that set. The gal has a heart of gold and she has done so well and has a great chance of winning the competition. She looks great too.
I was really moved by what Marie said about her parents: She wished that every man in this world could have been raised by her parents. The Osmond boys ended up in great marriages and have proved to be great family men. Gosh, isn't that HORRIBLE??
Go ahead and made your snide remarks here people. It shows how YOU were raised. Your parents should be ashamed of themselves for raising people like you.

Some of you people are so self absorbed and filled with jealously or hate or both.
I worked for MGM Records back when The Osmonds were on our label. And when in L.A., they lived in a building near friends of mine, so we ran into them there also. They are the nicest down to earth people you could ever meet. I remember one day they were in the MGM building, and fans had the entrances so blocked no one could get in or out. So what did the Osmond boys do until we could get security to clear the doors? They walked around the building visiting with everybody. I'll never forget one gal in our office grabbed the phone and called her teenage sister back in New Jersey shrieking "The Osmonds are RIGHT here." When her sister said "can I talk to them", she turns to Jay (I think it was) and says "will you talk to my sister" and he goes "sure". He took the phone & talked to her for 5 minutes. They were the most unassuming people you could ever ask to meet. They always signed autographs, they stood for pictures, they smiled & chatted... none of this "I'm SO above you" mentality that the stars have today. All you negative posters out there need to get a life.

The Osmonds were cute back in the seventies when there wasn't many channels and things to choose from on the TV. I think they are in denial now if they still think they have anything entertaining to offer, although I can picture a bunch of old ladies getting their bushes wet when they watch their family reunion gig on Oprah.

Donny is still so hot! And Jimmy has a beautiful voice. I had met them several times in the 70's and 80's and they are all so extremely nice.

There will always be nay~sayers and that's fine. It's a free world. HOW their opinions are offered shows their true nature ~ and some here are rather pathetic and bitter, not to mention ill-informed. The Osmonds are hard-working entertainers who continue to provide enjoyment to fans even after 50 years. There's a reason for their longevity ... they're talented! And us silly fans are rather dedicated so trust me when I say your opinion is truly irrelevant.

someday

they had long been tapped to appear on "oprah" before the father died...being true to being the entertainers they are they thought the father would have accepted....it was a tribute to their day...the osmonds don't need to "stage" anything.
i've had the pleasure to work with them....they are consumate professionals...easy going, polite, never frazzled, genuine good people, and that is so nice to see, and unfortunately not seen very much these days.....i give ultimate credit to their parents for raising strong good children.

Lets face it, the Osmond's are exactly going to sell out Madison Garden anytime in the near future.
