Great White Way Ridiculous

Clay Aiken's Saturday night debut in Broadway's "Spamalot" was full of absurdity -- and not because of Monty Python's material.

As Aiken made his debut at Broadway's "Spamalot" on Saturday, TMZ was in the house and -- believe us -- the Shubert Theater was full of middle-aged housewives (who comprise the Claymates) elbowed and bitched their way through a crazy throng to get their Romeo's autograph.

If Kelly Ripa doesn't want him touching her, there are definitely plenty of 40-and-overs who do!

46. I love Clay Aiken. Please feature and showcase musical singing sensation and platinum recording artist and America's Favorite Idol CLAY AIKEN a whole lot more on TMZ. Clay Aiken is my favorite male singer and male entertainer.

47. To #30. Being the mother of a very intelligent, successful, talented actress in Hollywood, who has never been in trouble, doesn't drink, doesn't do drugs, works incredibly hard, is always studying her acting between films or stage engagements and who prays and attends church weekly, I completely resent your remark. You have no right to judge everyone in this town by the behavior of those who are noticed simply because they are the squeakiest wheel.

48. He is starting to look like Carrot-Top's cuz.

49. I am so happy that Clay has this opportunity. He did some musical theater when he lived in Raleigh as a kid so he is fully capable of doing a great job. I am also glad that people will get to hear his wonderful voice if they haven't heard it before through his cds or when he was on tour. He is a personality plus person and this role seems just tailor made for him. More power to Clay-his talent abounds.

50. Before people comment and trash someone, please have your facts straight. First of all, Clay is not a small man. He is 6'1".. very tall! He does not have a huge ego. Quite the opposite. He is quite humble. Someone with a huge ego, would not share the stage with his back up singers, and give them props for their work and talent. Also, Clay's career is NOT in the toilet. He is the third most successful Idol from the entire series.. the MOST successful runner up. And, he success is going to continue and get even bigger. Clay's fan are people of ALL ages. And, since when is 40 old? If you go to any Clay Aiken concert you will see men and women ranging from 2-92. And, at Spamalot.. the crowds have had many, many men there, Including at the stage door waiting for his autograph.

Clay in Spamalot is blowing people away. He is a star.. and he is doind a fantastic job. and BTW.. in the show, he is wearing a wig. if you see the footage towards the end of the video, it shows Clay outside without the wig. And.. Clay plays 4 different parts in the show. so he looks different in each one.

Those of you hating a talking trash, no nothing about Clay, and need to stop. He is not gay, as he has stated many, many tiimes. Being a nice guy doesn't mean you are gay. Leave Clay alone.. he is a good man, with decent morals, and is a wonderful example of what a decent human being should be like. And, his talent, is amazing. The voice of course. But, he is also the ultimate entertainer. He is amazingly funny.. and very, very intelligent.

Do your homework people.. or all you are reporting are lies.

Are you mentally-disturbed fruitcake posting that comment all over the internet?

54. Clay is a good man and for some reason, certain people fear that. TMZ is very stupid. If they were decent to Clay and didn't take every opportunity to feed the vultures, countess thousands of Clay's fans would be giving hits to this site. Instead, his boards will not allow links to TMZ, nor do any Clay fan boards allow trashing of ANY celebrity. Clay doesn't approve of that. Too bad the courtesy is not returned.

Oh, Jet. Just wait until your mommy catches you posting on this site.

55. You know what - I had a rant typed out but it's so not worth it.

Clay was, by all accounts, absolutely amazing his first night, and is having an absolute ball on the stage of the Shubert Theatre. I hope that continues, and I'll be looking forward very much to seeing him in April (my mum and I are coming over from Britain to see him and can't wait!).

Stereotypes are too boring to comment on. I'll just enjoy the video of Clay's moment in the spotlight, thanks.

56. YEAH! Clay is here to stay! His performance in Spamalot was perfection. Such talent and humanity in one person!

Clay will be around for many decades to come. Get used to it, haters. He is everything you can never even hope to be. Sleazy comments about him will not make him go away or detract from the fine person that he is. The people who count (oh, and you are not them) know Clay and are happy to work with him to advance his career.

Bravo, Clay! My best wishes for your continued success. And, just remember, living well is the best revenge ('cause it gets the haters all twisted in knots...he! he!).

57. Ladies - all of you who have written in defending Clay from the vulgarities being thrown at him and at his fans - may I humbly add my opinion. Do what Clay does. When someone says something he sees as rude or crude, he ignores it or says that he refuses to discuss it.

If we did the same - completely ignored those who are trying to pull our chains, they'd soon stop. Why? Because these people need an audience to validate their own existence. Something is very wrong with them that they have no other way to make themselves known in this world. Feel pity for them, not anger. And don't answer them back. It only encourages them.

58. I was at the Friday show when Aiken debuted & he knocked my socks off! Seriously.... the guy's not just a great singer, but he can act, is a laugh riot & - what shocked me most - dances competently. My buds & I love this show as we are total Python fanatics & we've seen every casting version of the NY production. We were skeptical of Aiken's ability to fit in, but he proved us wrong bigtime. Do yourselves a favor if you're in town & grab a ticket. This weekend was SRO from what the boxoffice told me.

60. Hey, my cousin is in the chorus of SPAMALOT and she's in love with the guy. She says that the whole cast and crew can't stop talking about how great he is and how supportive his fans have been of everyone connected to the show. The family is going to see it again over my spring break. Oh, btw, that clip is from the curtain call, not the play itself.
