Heath's Death Could Be Natural Causes

1/27/2008 12:59 AM PST BY TMZ STAFF

Heath LedgerIt sounds strange, but sources intimately connected with the Heath Ledger investigation tell TMZ it's possible the actor died of natural causes.

The reason they think that -- it's now appearing that the level of toxicity (from medication) in Ledger's system was low enough that it may not have caused his death. These sources say Heath's heart stopped. It could have been a heart attack but it's not certain, at least not yet. Although it's bizarre that a 28-year-old could die of natural causes, it happens.

We've also learned authorities do not believe the housekeeper heard Ledger snoring when she walked in his bedroom at around 1:00 PM. Sources tell us, a fireman observed rigor mortis in Ledger's jaw shortly after arriving on scene at around 3:30 PM. Sources say they now believe Ledger was dead for around three hours prior to their arrival, so they don't believe the housekeeper could have heard snoring.

Authorities are also annoyed at news reports that there may have been a sinister plot to remove illegal drugs from Ledger's apartment before cops and firemen arrived. There are reports out there that the masseuse called Mary-Kate Olsen and a plot was hatched to have her bodyguard remove certain drugs. Authorities tell us that's impossible, because the cops were there the entire time the bodyguard was present and there would have been no opportunity to carry out such a plan. They say it's a made up story.

As we first reported, the masseuse contacted the bodyguard because she knew he was a licensed EMT.

too sad

i am wondering why the cops are reluctant to ask mary kate anything ,
why wont they conduct a small interview about
what and why calls were made to her in such urgency and
why was she partying at a night club idays or nights after his death iff she is such a great friend ?

No matter the cause of the death, it all boils down to one point. We have lost an admired, respected, and talented actor before his time. I never had the chance to know Heath but his death has hit me hard. He always will be my favorite actor. Neither life nor death can change the admiration and respect I have for this particular actor. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends, especially his daughter. Who will never have the chance to know her father but will always feel his love and hear stories of her wonderful father. RIP Heath... Gone but never forgotten

Its sad this has happened, a young man's life has ended tragically. I wonder why such deaths happen all the time. I think its time the movies and their investigations have come to be a life act. Who knows maybe this is all a setup finding drugs around his naked body to make it look like some drug thing only to cover up a murder. The housekeeper, a friend, lover or anyone around the scene could have done anything. Even the people who carried out the test or investigatoins whatsoever could have all been part of the cover up so please dont base your comments on what who said or did. Just pray that the among the investigators they happen to be someone real who will uncover the whole truth. suretly this storry does not convince me i just feel something is being left out to this whole thing. Please bring the SILK STALKINGS investigations to life here...then when murder is cleared we can rule out foulplay.

-Overdose may not have killed Heath Ledger
By Catherine Elsworth in Los Angeles
Last Updated: 2:14am GMT 28/01/2008

It was said that Mr. Ledger, Heath got pneumonia in Europe. (I suspect that) The virus possibly infected Mr. Ledger's heart that caused his heart problem.

This was my health problem last year when I got flu/cold. The microbs invaded my heart. My blood pressure went down to 76/50.

His heart problem due to pneumonia in combination of several prescription drugs for mental problem that killed him.

I have had over 20 seizures from benzodiazepine withdrawal in the
last few years. This happens when you STOP taking drugs like xanax
and ativan, apparently found at the scene. Would this type of
behavior lead to an absence of the drugs in the blood yet a direct cause of
benzo-related death? P.S. Heath put out a top notch, Morrisson type
vibe, and is so beautiful- an example of ten things I love about
him, nevermind drugs...

Again, the TMZ crowd and TMZ itself proves how pointless and stupid they/it are. Why is everyone on this planet so fixated on conspiracy theories? Yeah, let's get Mary-Kate involved. Oh, and then, maybe he had AIDS (yeah, that's right; check these posts; that's how DUMB some people are). And, let's blame the housekeeper; it was her fault too. And, poor Michelle Williams; yeah, it's her fault too because if they had been together, he wouldn't have been "distraught" over the Christmas season.

It is a tragedy that this talented man died so suddenly. But what is even more tragic is the endless milking of his death by sites like TMZ. What I want to know is WHY would any of the "sources intimately connected with the Heath Ledger investigation" bother telling TMZ anything at all? Why would they care what TMZ knows? TMZ isn't CNN. It's T-R-A-S-H. And for any smartass who asks me why I read it -- I don't. But I do happen to notice a headline every now and then that cannot be ignored, and the one good thing about TMZ is that it allows me to comment. So, here's my comment: Let poor Mr. Ledger REST IN PEACE.

The medication Heath was apparently on is used for beating anxiety and knocking you out. My experience with it over 20 times is that if you take a lot for a week, then stop, you can have a siezure. By all outward appearances you can be fine during the day and still binge at night, even just to get to bed. Don't ask why I have or why I survived, but all I know is that I haven't heard anyone speak of this possibility and it is a still misunderstood medical phenomenon. I think the way a person dies from an accidental drug situation it's important to learn from it, and I hope they will determine this one, but I fear law suits by drug companies may play a part in secrecy.

In the previous comment 20 times experience with it describes 20 siezures- what I wrote was misleading because it sounds like I took it 20 times. It is very addictive- control 1 I believe, and you can get it from any doctor- especially in a place like New York.

All I know is my husband went to bed, I heard him suddenly start to snore, rather loudly and then it stopped so I decided to go to bed and found him already dead of sudden cardiac arrest and he was only 40. It was a complete shock and we did not even know (married over 20 years) he had 2 forms of hereditary heart disease. The coroner told me that it appeared to be heart related but could not list the cause of death on the death certificate until the toxicology reports came back to make sure it was not brought on or escalated by any drugs in his system. He also told me the snoring I heard was probably his final aspirations which is common upon death. So the story sounds all too possible and familiar to me. R.I.P. Heath!

I hear people saying that Heath was a "GREAT MAN" how do you know that? Great men save lives and try to change the world through research and knowledge. Heath may have been a great actor but lets not make him out to be anything other than that. He may have been a great father also but lets not put him in the great man category.

I have a comment about rumors that Heath Ledger died of natural causes. I dont know much about that but what I do know is my husband is 28, and he had many sleepless nights over the past five years. He would be asleep and wake up abruptly after only a couple hours of sleep, we assumed it was insomnia. Finally when he couldnt take it anymore, we went and had a sleep anaylysis test done on him. We found out that he actually didnt have insomnia at all, in fact it was SLEEP APNEA!! He would wake up after only a couple of hours because he would actually stop breathing.. I think this could be possible in Heath case!!

How untrue - the news this morning was his body was still warm and that they believe he was only dead 20 minutes based upon "core" temp. Why doesn't everyone just wait for the actual results and save his family anymore heartache.

Poster #517 stated "How untrue - the news this morning was his body was still warm and that they believe he was only dead 20 minutes based upon "core" temp. Why doesn't everyone just wait for the actual results and save his family anymore heartache.

My response: The stories about Ledger being found within minutes of his death are bogus. That was not released by the coroner's office and actually contradicts statements released by the investigative team,. That rumor was started via the australian press. And, as per usual with the rumor mills it was simply stated as our sources have told us. It is obvious that the source is bogus and not one even remotely close to the case. Always consider the source, and when it is the papparazzi and gossip mills, rest assured you are being spoon fed a steaming hot pile of crap.

It is a crying shame that Heath was raked over the coals within hours of death and false rumors started about illicit and prescription drug abuse. He was a good and decent man, so humble and down to earth which is a rarity in Hollywood these days. The toxicology reports will confirm Heath was NOT a drug abuser. But, unfortunetly the rumors and stories will continue despite the evidence because the papparazzi and gossip mills make huge money on sensationalism.

Jamey,
That is your definition of a "great" man. Other people's definitions vary and are no less valid because of it. After all, Alfred Nobel is considered a "great" man. He accomplished a lot of good. He also invented dynamite and gelignite which have many uses, some good, some bad. Or one could cite Albert Einstein. Without his research, we wouldn't have the atomic bomb. Of course, we also wouldn't have nuclear power plants but then they have their pros and cons as well. Or would you rather discuss Werner von Braun, the father of modern rocketry and thus the space program. He also happened to be a member of the Nazi party and invented the V2 rocket which killed so many people in London in WW2. It all depends on your definitions.

"I'm glad that this will put an end to the overdose theory. But how on earth does a seemingly healthy 28 year old die of natural causes? I mean, who hasn't experimented with drugs? I don't see how that could have ruined his heart that much. Strange."

It does happen. Here is an example, a famous 2x Olympic Gold Medalist pairs skaters Sergei Grinkov died unexpectedly at I believe it was 28ish. He was physically fit. It was discovered he had a heart ailment that went undetected. It could just be bad genetics like in Sergei's case.
