Time for a Good Ol' Intervention

1/29/2008 10:20 AM PST BY TMZ STAFF

TMZ has been reporting for weeks that Britney's family and some professionals in her life have been planning a "creative way" to deal with her mental problems. It looks like the time has arrived.

Sources told TMZ "if it happens," it should happen this week. Last night, Brit's mom, Lynne, her dad, Jamie, cousin Alli, as well as Sam Lutfi and Adnan Ghalib all showed up at Britney's house and were all there at the same time.

Brit's mom and dad (and others) have known for months that a bipolar disorder -- and not substance abuse -- is at the root of her problems. They cannot involuntarily commit her (impossible under these circumstances) and Brit has refused to voluntarily enter a hospital or even undergo evaluation for the problem. But now the plan is underway.

Here's what's significant: Britney has not spoken to her mom for a while -- no contact at all. Last night, Britney and Lynne (along with Sam) left the house at one point and went to the drugstore, so it seems they are now interacting.

There were signs last night that Britney didn't feel as warm toward her dad, that she didn't want anything to do with him.

This move has been in the planning stages for well over a month. It should begin to unfold IF Britney cooperates, and that is the wild card.

BTW, this "creative" intervention is different from what her divorce lawyers pitched to Commissioner Scott Gordon last week. They are not involved in this one.

Stay tuned ...

been there, done that, marked for life

No one looks behind the ultimate problem...once called manic depression, changed to bi-polar in the late 1900's usually starts with a shock or tragic or unbarable pain one can't handle.
In Britney's case, I believing her last child might have caused her server post pardem depression and spirialing her downwards, coupled with her exposed life as a celebrity was just too much for her, causing her the modern day and age term bi-plar. With people who care, and only self--will can she beat this illness. Giving herself to medical care and maybe even sacrificing her profession, can she live through her life in normality. Then her children can have the life they were meant to live.

I had to repond when I read post # 15. How can anyone think Britney's behavior isn't at least partly due to a substance abuse problem? She's been nailed by the courts for having multiple drugs in her system when she was tested AND there is tons of direct, indisputable evidence that she has been drinking, even before her scheduled visitations (in defiance of the judge's orders). Alcohol and legally prescribed medications ARE drugs and they can definitely present a serious problem when misused. This happens to be quite common with people with bipolar disorders - they often abuse drugs and alcohol (incuding Rx meds) in an attempt to calm their mania or give themsleves an "up" when they are depressed. The fact that Britney has been caught with drugs like ritalin and Provigil scares the hell out of me - these meds are both stimulants or stimulant-type meds...the LAST thing Britney needs. We never hear of her being caught with what she does appear to need - which would be mood stabilizers (like lithium).
And yes, it's unfair to categorize all of Brit's behavior as being due to bipolar disorder. She seems to have three problems going on (at least) -
1.) Substance Abuse
2.) Bipolar disorder and / or other psych. issues
3.) She's a spoiled, ignorant, self-absorbed, immature person who hasn't been told "no" enough in her life.
