Autism Group to CBS: Fire That Retard!

Some idiot on "Big Brother 9" has irked more people than usual by referring to people with autism as "retards." Moron.

TMZ has obtained this letter from John Gilmore, Executive Director of Autism United, to Viacom bigwig Sumner Redstone and CBS, demanding that they take action after a segment aired on Wednesday's show featuring Adam Jasinski making the unfortunate remark. According to the letter, Gilmore claims CBS made a "conscious choice" in running the quote -- and used it for "their own personal goals."

The organization calls for "Big Brother 8" (oops) to be canceled, and expects an apology to people with autism. Gilmore also tells TMZ they've contacted the show's advertisers.

16. *rolls eyes* Even though the guy is a jerk, MOVE ON. Retarded, mentally challenged---MEANS THE SAME THING. A person can't even speak anymore without fear of "offending" someone.

18. That guy is the retard! Ignorance is what makes hate live on... it's the same as someone using the N word (no matter what race you are!) I have a child with Autism, he's no retard--he has severe hyperactivity and attention problems, but when he learns something, he knows it FOREVER.

The creep needs to be fired and CBS needs to appologize... I'll be happy with that.

20. There are many different levels of autism. It is too broad of a spectrum to define. You have high functioning people who have autism who can go to school and carry on a conversation, but they lack social skills. They won't look you in the eye sometimes, and they keep to themselves. There are people who do not have the ability to speak at all, and they are in the own little world.

21. This show is just soo odd to begin with. Although I am kinda hooked this season which is very sad to say, its just annoying how its a big bitch fest on that show. What do people think before they sign on. Although, I do confess to having a bit of a chuckle when I did hear that word used the other night, I do feel it is totally used in bad taste. The guy who said it just looks creapy. And the chick he is paired up with, talk about a self centered bitch. OMG. The first night she was just going on and on. Lady, your just paired up with him. You dont have to go home with him and have his kids. Geesh. But I do think an apology would suffice in this case. Nothing else should be needed.

22. I think that the person making the comment, should be removed from the show. The show producers should have aired the comment, showing that this guy is unsatble and needs to be removed, as well as showing america and his employer how he really feels. My nephew is Autisitic and I work as a social worker specifically with the developmentally disabled. He needs to respect the rights of these individuals as well as his own ethical values and standards. He really should not be working with the public at all, espcially the at risk population of Autistic individuals. CBS should remove his NOW, before they are sued.

24. I love Big Brother, and I've watched it every season. However, I think that an apology is in order, but why did no one make a big deal when the girl on Tila Tequila said her parents adopted disabled children, so she was going home to visit her retarded Brothers and Sisters? I was offended by that when it happened not so long ago!

27. This is the worst Big Brother EVER! Looks like they turned the planning and producing over to CBS interns. Take all of these people and ship them off to Iraq where they would really have something to complain and whine about!

28. They knew what kind of guy he was, that's why he is on there...RATINGS! But seriously, people need to stop infringing on the right to free speech, even if the free speech is insulting. You shouldn't get fired for talking, but you should get ostrasized, get hate mail, and bug the producers. If we can allow them to insult, we can allow them to be insulted back.

29. For anyone with a child with autism, like my self, we spend most of our time, wishing that people would understand what autism is, because most people are misinformed about it. yes we can switch the channel, but the comment was made on a popular show, on a network station, the amount of young adults (and younger children) who are watching and that one comment is made, and the affects can be very harmful. CBS should be ashamed that they allowed that comment to be made, and a public apology should be made!!! And for the person who commented that another person has chosen to be offended should be ashamed or yourself, and if you had a child that suffered from autism, or even new someone with autism, i am sure that comment would have never been posted!
