Autism Group to CBS: Fire That Retard!

Some idiot on "Big Brother 9" has irked more people than usual by referring to people with autism as "retards." Moron.
Click to read the letter!
TMZ has obtained this letter from John Gilmore, Executive Director of Autism United, to Viacom bigwig Sumner Redstone and CBS, demanding that they take action after a segment aired on Wednesday's show featuring Adam Jasinski making the unfortunate remark. According to the letter, Gilmore claims CBS made a "conscious choice" in running the quote -- and used it for "their own personal goals."

The organization calls for "Big Brother 8" (oops) to be canceled, and expects an apology to people with autism. Gilmore also tells TMZ they've contacted the show's advertisers.

Some people are just ignorant.

Odds are this guy isn't going to get any smarter, either.

34. 26. For anyone with a child with autism, like my self, we spend most of our time, wishing that people would understand what autism is, because most people are misinformed about it. yes we can switch the channel, but the comment was made on a popular show, on a network station, the amount of young adults (and younger children) who are watching and that one comment is made, and the affects can be very harmful. CBS should be ashamed that they allowed that comment to be made, and a public apology should be made!!! And for the person who commented that another person has chosen to be offended should be ashamed or yourself, and if you had a child that suffered from autism, or even new someone with autism, i am sure that comment would have never been posted!

35. Although I do not think the show should be cancelled, I do think that a public apology is necessary

For people who unfamiliar with the appropriate "terminology", "retard", "retarded", even "mentally retarded" are offensive and ugly terms when used to refer to people with disabilities. It' just like calling black people, "negros" or "colored people". It used to be accepted and now it is not. It is also like calling little people "midgets". They do not like or appreciate the term.

PLEASE BE RESPECTFUL! ADAM JASINSKI: SHAME ON YOU!! APOLOGISE!!

37. I thought that it was a very funny comment! I have those same thoughts myself and I totally agree with Adam. I also think that he is creepy and probably a jerk. But I also think that his 'partner' is just as bad. She needs to get with the program and try to win that $500K. FYI - Did you know that she was in Penthouse magazine and did a totally nude photo spread about 20 years ago? Check it out! Its hot!!

38. jsam, you do know freedom of speech still exists in this country right? You can't put a muzzle on everyone who says something stupid. If that's the kind of country you want then move to the middle east. They love women with opinions.

39. this is so dumb! freedom of speech and if he wants to say stupid things that should only reflect on HIM not the show.

40. I'm offended that you're offended.

41. Autism is not = mental retardation. Many autistic individuals are highly intelligent. They are two completely different issues. The remark is offensive because it is completely ignorant, and promotes the further ignorance of people who do not know anything about autism. It makes it worse that he supposedly helps autistic children and their families. I use the term 'helps' loosely. He should know the difference, and should have known how hurtful the remark would be.

44. While I agree his comment was not a nice term, this is America where we do have freedom of speech. The guy has shown he's an idiot - this is not his 1st stupid comment. What bothers me more is when he says he works with them all the time. Having worked in the health care field for DD adults I began to pay close attention to terminogy used. Back 20 years ago - they did not have a special name for each affliction so everyone was retarded. Now it's not quite the same, now there are more than 50 diagnosis. Jus tproves he's an idiot and not a good fit if he is working with these individuals. I agree with several posters - this would warrant a job review and possibly termination. But free speach should not be penalized by CBS - I will back them on that one. The guys a dufus!

45. Well let me just say a prayer that both Reaper and todd, never have chldren, because what shame it would be to allow such people who make comments about children in that manner to procreate.
