Cops to Brit: You Crashed, But Are You Smashed?

Brit Brit was the driving force in a minor three-car ax Saturday night -- but cops say she was dead sober when it happened.

According to the CHP collision report, the popwreck drove her 2008 Mercedes into the back of a 2006 Nissan as she drove on the 101 freeway in L.A. around 8:18 PM PT. The other driver was a 21-year-old man from the valley -- his friends are gonna love this.

The report claims Brit was caught in stop-and-go-traffic when she "attempted to brake but failed to stop her vehicle." The Nissan was then, "pushed forward into another older model vehicle."

TMZ confirmed that officers on the scene DID perform one field sobriety test on Spears, which turned out negative.

So far, no injuries have been reported.

62. 60. I'm sorry folks, but the news items which stated that Britney's bodyguard was driving are wrong. The CHP report states that _she_ was driving. The bodyguard took over the driving responsibilities after the accident. These kinds of fender-benders occur routinely on the L.A. freeways, and it's common for people not to be cited when the collisions are as minor as this one no doubt was. Nonetheless, none of this means that Britney is necessarily able to function capably in the world of adults. With regard to the paparazzi that were surrounding the car on the freeway after the accident: why weren't they cited or arrested? Hmmmm, that's odd, the Sheriff was on the news this morning & stated Britney was NOT the one driving, her bodyguard was. So, he tells the newspapers/tabloid she was driving but yet goes on TV stating she was not the driver. Go figure. But I do agree the Freeways in L.A. is horrendous & everyday there tons of fender benders. It will be luderchrist for the cops to write a ticket for every bender that is so minor. That's just my opinion.

Jamie Spears is NOT legally responsible for Britney's boo boos. He simply writes the checks for them. More like the guy who has to follow the elephants in the parade, sweeping up after them.

64. OK, I live in New Jersey. But I have been to Los Angeles before. The TMZ article says that she, "rear ended another car as she drove on the 405 freeway in L.A." Now, isn't the 405 freeway in L.A. a very busy north-south highway that runs through Los Angel and the San Fernando Valley, where cars can be travelling at speeds of 55-65 MPH? It's amazing nobody got hurt.

65. Does it really matter? I agree that the ding dang crap is childish and gettng pretty damn old.......Who writes this crap? Probably some illegal foreigner......I know people from the South, and I'll be damn if I've ever heard them say ding dang...Maybe because they are college educated, and the people that write this stupid crap stories (exactly what they are) are not......TMZ staff sucks!!!!

67. Oh boy, I can see the lawsuits coming! This happened to me 2 years ago and the guy claimed he got hit in the back of the head with a can of fruit that was in his backseat!! Hope ya have good insurance Britney. LOL!

68. For goodness sake she gets into an accident a minor one at that and you guys are raving mad. I can say that lilo has been in quite a few and totalled her car, so who gives a crap it happens, at least britney was sober. give her a break thats all she wants, let her be a normal person, she is who she is and if you dont like it then dont pay attention to her.

74. The traffic is terrible on that highway. From the pictures there is no damage at all to her car, so I can't imagine anything else is that bad. The sobriety test seems uncalled for and just done because of who she is. She was also with a bodyguard.
