Cops to Brit: You Crashed, But Are You Smashed?

Brit Brit was the driving force in a minor three-car ax Saturday night -- but cops say she was dead sober when it happened.

According to the CHP collision report, the popwreck drove her 2008 Mercedes into the back of a 2006 Nissan as she drove on the 101 freeway in L.A. around 8:18 PM PT. The other driver was a 21-year-old man from the valley -- his friends are gonna love this.

The report claims Brit was caught in stop-and-go-traffic when she "attempted to brake but failed to stop her vehicle." The Nissan was then, "pushed forward into another older model vehicle."

TMZ confirmed that officers on the scene DID perform one field sobriety test on Spears, which turned out negative.

So far, no injuries have been reported.

61. To titty (message #32): I understand that Britney _was_ behind the wheel when the collision occurred, but that after the accident, the bodyguard took over the driving responsibilities. You saw the aftermath.

But yeah, this is a tempest in a teapot. How many people who drive on the L.A. freeways every day have _not_ gotten into minor fender-benders from time to time. It doesn't mean that all of them who do are menaces to society.

64. I'm sorry folks, but the news items which stated that Britney's bodyguard was driving are wrong. The CHP report states that _she_ was driving. The bodyguard took over the driving responsibilities after the accident.

These kinds of fender-benders occur routinely on the L.A. freeways, and it's common for people not to be cited when the collisions are as minor as this one no doubt was.

Nonetheless, none of this means that Britney is necessarily able to function capably in the world of adults.

With regard to the paparazzi that were surrounding the car on the freeway after the accident: why weren't they cited or arrested? I know that it's illegal to stop on a freeway and loiter outside of your car unless you yourself are involved in an accident or emergency.

Hmmmm, that's odd, the Sheriff was on the news this morning & stated Britney was NOT the one driving, her bodyguard was. So, he tells the newspapers/tabloid she was driving but yet goes on TV stating she was not the driver. Go figure. But I do agree the Freeways in L.A. is horrendous & everyday there tons of fender benders. It will be luderchrist for the cops to write a ticket for every bender that is so minor. That's just my opinion.

70. OK, I live in New Jersey. But I have been to Los Angeles before. The TMZ article says that she, "rear ended another car as she drove on the 405 freeway in L.A." Now, isn't the 405 freeway in L.A. a very busy north-south highway that runs through Los Angel and the San Fernando Valley, where cars can be travelling at speeds of 55-65 MPH? It's amazing nobody got hurt.
