Star to Babs: I'm a Lawyer, You're a Slut

Star Jones and Barbara Walters are staging their own version of "The Hills" -- just 50 years later!

Star Jones unleashed a verbal ass-whooping on Barbara Walters today, telling Us Weekly, "It is a sad day when an icon like Barbara Walters, in the sunset of her life, is reduced to publicly branding herself as an adulterer, humiliating an innocent family with accounts of her illicit affair and speaking negatively against me all for the sake of selling a book ... It speaks to her true character."

Star is referring to the revelation Walters made that she had an affair with then-married Senator Edward Brooke during the 1970s -- and the fact that Walters claims in her new book Jones forced her to lie on "The View" about Jones' gastric bypass surgery.

For her part, Walters' rep refused to comment back, saying, "I will not dignify this with a comment. Barbara's written words say it all!"

31. Barbara Walters is a titan in the U.S. media. The charge that she was "forced to lie" does not ring true. Rosie O'Donnell felt no such obligation and spoke the truth about the surgical intervention as one phat gal to another. Diet and exercise, indeed! It was obvious that Star Jones had undergone gastric bypass surgery, but she chose to be dishonest about it. (She would say it was a "private" matter, but she flaunted so many other aspects of her personal life.)

Ms. Walters did not have to reveal this adulterous affair /scandal and is hurting some innocents in doing so. She did it for the shock value and to sell her book. Not the best move, Barbara. Ms. Jones's comments were angry and unnecessary. They reveal her character as well.

Lately "The View" leads by talking about "DWTS" and "American Idol," neither of which I watch. I have colleagues and I don't need vicarious water cooler chats from this cast . No wonder Lisa Ling moved on. The show has gotten incredibly boring.

32. Barbara has caught "cranky old person" syndrome. A lot of old people start to think because they are old they can say whatever they want "because it's the truth". They forget the rules from kindergarten: Before you speak - is it true? - is it necessary? - is it kind?

34. I agree with Star Jones , why would she embarass the family like that by bringing up the affair , is it a political thing with mrs. walters ?

35. Barbara Walters is a respected News reporter...damn near an icon! Many, many women in the field of Journalism owe their careers to Barbara.
I am sure that Barbara revealed her affair because it obviously was important to her and shaped her life. I haven't seen any outcries from the gentleman's family...I really don't think it is a kiss and tell all the juicy details type of book.

Star Jones is a publicity hound who has constantly bee caught telling lies about her life...She is so irrevelant.
20 yrs. from now people will still know who Barbara Walters is...Star Jones...not so much! (and by the way..isn't Dwayne Wade married?)

43. I admire Ms. Walters and still do. We all knew Star was lying, and in my opinion she married the first man that asked her.
Barbara Walters is an icon that will live on forever as far as I am concerned and as far as her "affair" many of us have had them and I am sure the man in question understands.

44. Happened to be channel surfing when I caught the Oprah interview. Frankly, never cared for ANY of the 3 subject matter (Oprah, Babs OR Star), but have to admit, watching Babs, didn't believe a word that came out of her mouth, and I don't think Oprah did either.

We're all human, we all makes mistakes, past, present or future. WHY she would reveal the affair now, who is to say. It's going to surely haunt her, professionally and personally. She stated back then it would have ruined both of them, well, now she deems it okay? Speaks volumes of her character NOW more for revealing it, than it would back then...my opinion anyhow. Yeah, hurtful disclosures that serve no useful purpose should be taken to the grave.

She had a lifetime to put in the pages of any memoir, why she chose to even discuss the two subject matters (Star/Rosie) she did in a book remains to be seen. As I said, it's already spoken volumes about her own character. Star's comment (and I am NOT a fan of hers) was tactful and to the point, Rosie might best to remain silent and let Bab's own words come back to bite her in her elderly a**.

45. I agree with Star on this one, Barbara should not have revealed her affair, this only hurts people at this point, so why do it? I will not buy Barbara's book.
