I'm black, and I think I'm a pretty decent tipper. My mom was a bartender, do I know how important those tips can be. BUT, I will not leave a tip if I feel that I am not getting the same quality of service as other customers (which does happen to black folks). I'll share a story that happened to me. I flew into New York. I ended up sharing a cab with a white girl. The cab driver dropped her off in front of her hotel and carried her bags inside. He took me to my hotel, dropped me off across the street because he didnât feel like making a U turn, and popped the trunk so I can get my own bags out the car. I gave him the exact amount of the fair. He got an attitude (true New Yorker), and told me that the white girl gave him a tip so I should too. I reminded him about the difference in the service he provided to us. Then he just looked stupid, shook his head, and drove off. So in some cases, there is a valid reason for not leaving a tip.
