McCain Says Obama Famous for Being Famous

7/30/2008 3:42 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

John McCain has defended his latest campaign ad, not-so-subtly comparing Barack Obama to Britney Spears and Paris Hilton.

In the ad, you see images of Paris and Brit flash across the screen for a split second, then Obama, as the announcer says, "He's the biggest celebrity in the world, but is he ready to lead?" The unspoken implication: another famous flake.

McCain's peeps just came out with this statement: "This ad obviously also addresses a unique facet in Barack Obama's campaign that is unlike any other campaign we've seen in modern political history. A campaign that is focused on the development of an enormous image of celebrity status."

The statement continues, "These images of celebrity status and the way he has conducted his campaign ... owe more to the development of an international celebrity status than it does to a traditional campaign for President."

Translated, McCain is comparing Obama to a woman who shaved her head in a fit of craziness and another who skanked up the screen with a sex tape.

Is it even legal to use celeberty images without their consent?

McCain is getting desperate and coming out with more and more ridiculous things. So much for running a "clean" campaign. His latest ads are pathetic.

McCain is making a fatal political campaign error; don't make your message about the other person. So far McCain hasn't sold himself at all, he's just making his own campaign about Obama, which is very stupid and short sighted. The candidate with the buzz is Obama, and McCain is being presented as 'the other guy' and that is why he will lose.

Nice try, McCain. This man has a Harvard law degree. Quite the educated flake. Maybe you're just assuming the American people are flakes and don't know enough to research the backgrounds of their presidential candidates. I don't want someone leading me that things I'm an idiot.

I would like to see Alec Baldwin,Spike Lee,TMZ wimps and the rest of the Obama cult head striaght down to the recruiting office to sign up for Obama's planned wars in Afghanistan and Pakistan. I'm sure that you cultists remember that Obama said he would invade Pakistan. It's all on the record. Time for you left wingnuts to come out from your the beds and fight for your boy IF he wins....which is highly doubtful.

You act like you are surprised..... Come on, like you are new to politics (rolls eyes). Give us a break. Are you going to bombard us this election season with every stupid thing these candidates say? You will loose readers if you do. This election season, let us make our own evaluations and decisions. We don't come to TMZ for that crap.

I don't know why John McCain keeps crying like a 4 year old. Obama isn't going to become President, I don't care what he does. Why? I'm going to tell you what no one seems to have the guts to say. BECAUSE HE'S BLACK!! And anyone who thinks otherwise is living in a fantasy world. The proof: He's only 9 points ahead in the polls against a Republican Party that has ran this country into the ground. Hell, the most inept white canidate (i.e., a KKK member with a third grade education) would be ahead by at least 30 points at this stage. So McCain just needs to relax. If he loses this election against a Black Canidate he has to be as screwed up as a soup sandwich. And yes, I'm black and I'm going to vote Obama.

Its definately a fair comparison.

He appears on more tabloid magazines like People, Entertainment, US weekly, than Britney and Paris have been lately.

When you turn on the tv, all of the liberal media is praising him like he's the reincarnation of Elvis. You can turn around without hearing about Barack.

The one thing we never hear about him...

Why does he keep saying 16 months to pull out of Iraq, only to turn around and say he has no plans to pull out of Iraq in the short term...

Why does he say no to off shore drilling when we are in such a crisis?

Why do we want a president whose had less experience leading than Hillary Clinton who at least told her husband what to do when he was president?

This guy's only been a gov. for a short time... what makes him think he can be a president?

Why is this guy only playing on the fact he's black when he's supposedly so proud of his white heritage too?

WHY DID HE CANCEL HIS TRIP TO VISIT INJURED/WOUNDED SOLDIERS WHEN HE REALIZED THERE WERE NO CAMERAS ALLOWED? he still hasn't come up with a decent excuse for that.

He's a fraud whose only popular because the media tells the sheep he is. In otherwords, he is EXACTLY like Britney and Paris.

mccain is desperate. Comparing Obama to someone who became famous through a porn video is the lowest blow in the history of presidential politics
