Suspected Murder Weapon Recovered

Police recovered a gun today and it may be the murder weapon in the Hudson murder case.

Cops sent 100 personnel to search the area where the body of 7-year-old Julian King was found. A handgun was found in an abandoned lot, about a block away from where the vehicle with Julian's body inside was parked.

Cops believe this is the weapon used in all three murders.

The Chicago Sun-Times broke the story.

76. you know TMZ you are giving this news so much publicity....you need to stop!

Obviously this family had lots of problems and made bad choices, but one of the reasons for higher crimes in this country is due to the media giving too much coverage....

These are type of behaviors that are easily copied by rebels as a way of getting noticed.

77. As of tonight's news, police are saying that they''ve sent the gun to Illinois State Police for further analysis (they have some high-tech equipment that may be able to establish whether or not bullets retrieved from the victims, shell casings found in the house, and other forensic evidence may have come from this weapon). But they aren't yet stating that it's the murder weapon. For those outside the Chicago area, know that the North Lawndale area has its challenges too, and finding guns and other "discards" from crimes in the alleys, yards, and vacant lots is, unfortunately, not uncommon. If it's NOT the murder weapon used in the Hudson family slayings, perhaps its finding will help solve another crime.

This whole package seems just a little too "convenient." Finding the SUV with little Julian's remains, and then today a weapon, in the same neighborhood where William was known to stay at the girlfriend's house? If William was indeed the perpetrator or accomplice to the crimes, why would he not have chosen to (1) Flee and hide TOTALLY away from either area where he knew that family, friends, and police could easily locate him, and (2) Leave the stolen SUV with Julian's remains, and the murder weapon, at two very different locations very far away from either Englewood or Lawndale? Today we have also learned that someone else apparently drove Willam's car away from the vicinity of the Hudson home and left it at a high school parking lot a few blocks away around 12:30 P.M. on Friday. William's cell phone records, including a conversation with his parole officer about the missed meeting because he was babysitting, clearly place him at the girlfriend's home in Lawndale well before that time period, so something doesn't add up here. His girlfriend apparently told police that his arrival was sometime in the morning AFTER the 8 - 9 AM time period when it is assumed the murders occurred (so she couldn't provide a firm alibi for his being in her house at the exact same time shots were fired), but his cell phone GPS records and corresponding recollections of those to whom he spoke all prove he was there long BEFORE 12:30 PM when the schoolyard's security camera shows the car being brought there. Unfortunately, that security video isn't clear enough to identify the person who parked the car there and walked away (it was also dark, cloudy, and rainy here until much later in the afternoon so that contributed to the poor camera image also). I'm not clear on how long William's car remained near the Hudson home; now reports say some neighbors recalled seeing it there "very early, around 7 AM" but it's not clear how long it remained there before leaving the scene. There are no surveillance cameras right on the block where the home is located, so we don't know if William or whoever was driving it came by at 7 AM and left again, then had someone park the car at the high school later after having been elsewhere, or if the car stayed there all morning until it was moved to the street by the high school after noon. In either case, it wasn't William who left the car on the street by the high school (69th and Normal, home is at 70th and Yale, so would take only about 5 minutes to get from the block to the school if the car was driven directly) because he was already in Lawndale.

78. enough already - reporting on crimes does not cause more crime.
What, by reading this is someone going to go to Fantasia's house and do the same? Teach them to read? C'mon.
That's crazy talk. The media does not cause crimes, they may have no tact and be invasive but I'm sure most criminals don't read the paper to plan their next killing spree. That's crazy talk.

82. Any violent crime story involving a child, is always heartbreaking. I must say that these situations evoke many opinions. We all know that hind sight is 20/20. I have shed tears of anguish for little Julian. No child should ever have to endure the pain he suffered during his final moments. No doubt he came from a loving, family environment. However, to love is to shelter and protect. As the details continue to emerge, I am not so sure he was in a safe environment by any means. I am not trying to judge. I am only trying to make sense of all the facts related to the case. So friggin' sad....

84. #42, yes good points but some no (to me) and yes it is your opinion. William had a key to the house. He had plenty of reason to kill - drugs, gang, jealousy, envy, $$, temper, etc. WHY in the HELL would Julia kill her mother and brother?? That makes no since. William came in day light and used key. It had to be someone they knew to get in or Jason could hav epened door, saw gun then shut it back thus the shooting through the door. AND William had help. He was not alone. CNN states a witness saw two people come and go. Someone else drove William's car and parked it at a school - they have the tape. Why they took Julian out of the house is odd but they did. Maybe Julian tried to get bold and they killed him from that in the SUV. Who knows and may never really know. It's sad people died knowing who ther killer is and we may never know. But the police know a lot and the evidence will tell. They all know more then what they are saying, it will come out. But Julia didnt pull the trigger on anyone. AGAIN, the mom and ho's know somehting and Julia played a part but did not pull the trigger. She could be scared now that all this has happened and thats why thug picture still on site. A thug can have powerful power over you if you get caught up........don't get it twisted!

89. I will not respect gangsters nor fear them. I will not live in intimidation. This is my neighborhood.Buy a house and pay your taxes. Then come to me like a man. This child and the rest of his family need to be respected. Leave them alone.
